Description:	Yeah, this is a group where I thought we could post screenshots of our desktops. Why? well, I like looking at other ppl's desktops and configurations, they give me Ideas I can't possibly have with my current IQ. Nice one!

really metallic look, everything seems
to fit togheter quite well also :)

I take that is gnome you are using?
I wouldn't have recognized it, but the
"foot" gave it away :)

I think those are screenslets? right?

they look good, but how are they in
practise? I remember like two years ago
when I tried them, they leaked so much
memory that after an hour or so of using
them they had hugged like 80% of my ram :D.

I'm sure they work better now :)

The "sony" player looks killer also?
is that audacious??

Hi Rob,

the screen is gnome and it's all cairo-dock-widget's!

on the right site: cairo-dock
active function...
graphic-temp,ram,cpu,clock,desktop-switcher.and left site,secend icon is quick-browser.

the other dock is avant-window-navigator!

I also had that problem with screenlets but it's better as for some jears!

the player is audacious...you find the skin in gnome-look!

Yeah! kde4 rocks man!

No need for extra additions, just right
click the desktop and "add widgets" and
you have everything you need on your
desktop :D

Plasma is really starting to get there,
I remember in the beginning it was a
pain, ppl wanting to replace the plasma
panel with kicker and what not... but those
days are long gone!

Google Chrome on Linux

Finally its here:

Its fast but i can't use it without flash or a popup blocker (thanks for reminding me imageshack -_-) and i would certainly miss all my extensions.

I just don't understand why opera crashes so often, especially when flash is being used, firefox seems fine with it. Its a total mystery.

Yeah we have all been waiting for that, altho
"chromium" has been here for a while,
"google chrome" is what ppl want.

Is chrome a lot faster than chromium btw?

I haven't tryed it yet since google only
provides packages for ubuntu?? wtf?? :S

anyways, I dloaded the deb and used deb2tar
to get a tarball... but it says it can't
find nss or some other library, don't really
remember, I guess ubuntu installs them
someplace else.

anyway, your screenshot looks way cool!

The whole vista/seven look really workes
there man!!

Really neat.

Tho I see you have some kinda mix there going on,
between gnome/kde4/kde3??? compiz, kde4 plasma
and kde3 run dialog?? how is that even
possible :D

Anyways, Your shot really got me thinkering
about what I'm really looking at.

All in all, cool desktop!

PS, arora is a good webkit based browser,
with flash working and what not.

Try google's chrome, the 64bit chromium debs found on ubuntu ppa are missing several 32bit libraries which are required to make it run.

If you want you can copy google chrome's libraries over to chromium to get it to work, just copy everything inside /opt/google/chrome/lib32/ to /usr/lib/chromium-browser/ and it will work fine

I got it running, I just symlinked the
libraries so that google chrome found
them.....

I must say, I'm impressed with the speed,
really, it's the fastest browser to date!

Tho personally, I'm still sticking with
konqueror/arora, since they have the
stuff I need :)

Gonna try it again when there is a new
"build" available :)

For like about 2 months im not using slackware any more. I gave Kubuntu a chance and it works really good. And the automagic things(updates, deps) are good, too. But im planning to test the new official 64bit version of slackware. I still got 12.2 on my old hard drive for testing kde from trunk. Thanks for visiting my gallery, hope you can be inspirated of it ;)

do dependencies??

I used to think that i can't stand with kubuntu, but i tryed 9.04, and now i can't go back to slack. Yeah, it's still can't do deps, and that's the main problem for me. It was always problem, even with slapt, or something like that.
What distri do you use? Try Kubuntu :D

Yeah I tried kubuntu... not the latest tho.

Nothing for me, I like to configure my
own CFLAGS when I compile and so on....

I'm on gentoo btw, It has the best package
manager ever built :)

And I get cutting edge stuff REALLY
easy.

For example, I run kde-svn, and qt from
the kde-qt-copy whatever it's called repo.
All I have to do is one command to have
all so called "live" packages to sync
against the svn / git / whatever server
and compile and install the packages is
one command,

emerge @live-rebuild

Now aint that something, wake when ubuntu
can do that ;)

I coulnt live with a package manager
that doesnt do deps for more than like
5 minutes :D

So I easily understand you wanting something
a little more "easy" for a change, with
not as much thinkering.

Anyways, seems like I'm gonna stick
with gentoo for many years to come, not
that I'm saying other is crap, it simply
doesn't do what I want it to do.

yeah, auto-deps make life easier. And yeah, it's good to have a choice, and to pass distro for our own needs. I was using slack for about 3 years, and i was happy with it. But when you can, and you want to make your life easier, why not? So i tryed Kubuntu, and i loved it :D It wasn't bad with deps in slack, couse of slapt-get, but sometimes i had to search for python deps, etc. That was pissing of and took alot of time. Now i only type the pkg name, click install, and everything "starts to dance" :D

Yeah I can understand how that was pissing
you off, solving depency problems manually
is far from fun, and time consuming.

I never got that with ubuntu tho, with
gentoo it's more like that in my case :D

your english isn't bad at all, not even close :)

I'm glad you found a distro to fit your needs
tho, we all have different needs.

One of the better things with aptitude is
it's speed tho, I thought it was very fast.

Tho I have never tried "conary", it is
said to be even faster(!), since when
you update a package with aptitude, it
updates all the files in that package,
(even if some files are exactly the same).

With conary you have an built-in checksum
checker that keeps track of the files,
and only updates the files that have
actually changed, so in teory, that
should be faster.

I have spoken to some guys that use conary
and they say it's lightning fast and
they are very happy with it :)

Go figure :D

Personally I'm sticking with gentoo
on my main comp, and arch on my msi wind
netbook :)

I would have installed gentoo on it too,
but I decided that compiling on a "intel atom"
cpu would be too time consuming on a
computer I only use when I'm away or
this computer is occupied :)

really is, there is no other de that
can actually do the stuff kde4 can.

Must say your themes are some of the best available.......
I think gnome has a lot of catching up to do with kde4......but gnome seems to have a more uniformed look and more apps...
some apps are still stuck on kde 3 which is annoying :)
