Mandriva is a very polished distro, and hold its own when compared to other more popular distros. Every new release is an improvement on the previous IMO. It also doesn't feel as bloated as other distro's I have used. Mandriva will always be no.1 for me. I've been using Mandriva 2010.1 Spring edition for the past few weeks, and must say, it's turning out to be quite promising.

On a side note, I was thinking of starting up a guide on how to replace all the default mandriva icons. some of them are butt ugly, while others don't fit into existing themes. Is this something people will be interested in? I started one in the past, with a guide on how to replace the default wireless icons, but it didn't get many hits, and little to no comments, so I removed it. Anyway, hope to get some more folks back here for a good ol chat on all things Mandriva. Peace.

Yop ! replacing the Mandriva default icons interest me :D I use the Cairo Dock and can customise it but still can't have firefox with my dark-blue icon :(

I will try and get a guide started over the next week or so...but will be relying on other's to contribute and slowly add to it. :)...here's what I can think of, just off the top of my head:

- Default netapplet icons (Wireless and ethernet icons in particular)
- Mandriva start icon
- Keep/Forget Authorisation icon

They were icons that bothered me the most.

As far as I know with firefox, I believe if you browse to /usr/lib/firefox-(version)/chrome/icons/default, you will find the answer you are looking for. Hope that's the solution you were looking for. Peace.

It works :D
the tougher is to have the skills to use the Konsole ^__^
If you wish to change icons, you can modify the menu and use the Lancelot one, which is customizable.

Hm... 22-12-2010 Mandriva 2010.2 is release. What's bad with that?

Mandriva will now be released once a year.MDV 2011 is scheduled for May 30

Yes, I'm well aware of that. I am all for a yearly release. Did I say something wrong in my comment that you would like to share? It is IMO that with the new management team concentrating on the server market, I feel like its a sad day for Mandriva users as we see a chapter closed. As a gnome user also, it s**ts me to tears that there was no mention of whether gnome will still be focused on. There was only mention of "being the best KDE distribution". So what's bad about that you say? Hmmm.

You understand wrong. Mandriva is still live. Mageia is created by the staff of Mandriva SA who have been dismissed (the entire IT department EDGE)

I'm not sure what Mandriva means, but Mageia is a pretty awesome choice for a name. It means magic in Greek. It's a reference to Mandrake the magician.
