I can't get streaming video to play on Mandriva 2001/KDE4. You Tube is fine but no mpeg, wmv, etc.

Anyone have any ideas of what to do? I have tried various players with no luck. Tried to download Kaffine with no luck.

I don't believe it is my video card as I had Ubuntu/gnome before and it worked.....

Help me! I am a linux moron.......

Configure repository Non-free or PLF and install win32, ffmpeg, real-codecs, libdvdcss2, lame, faad-debug (fluendo). This no complite video/audio codecs but at the beginig is enough

Why don't you try SMplayer? It's a great QT frontend for MPlayer, which includes all popular videocodecs...

SMplayer does not include video codecs. The SMPlayer is just a frontend for MPlayer. The Mplayer works as backend and does have all the multimedia codecs.
You can use any multimedia player what you like what just use MPlayer as it's backend. That is the greatness of backend/frontend functionality.

SMPLayer is nice but one thing: (s)mplayer use/work better with gstreamer.

Can't get windows media, mpegs, wmv; none of the mainstream streaming video files work. I can get you-tube.

I have tried everything that has been suggested in the previous post to no avail.

it opens and then closes within the space of a second and doesn't play.

I am baffled.

I'm using the Totem Movie Player. It's already installed with Mandriva 2009.1 Free, under "Sound&Video".
It uses gstreamer, so set up plf and download all the codecs for it using "Install&Remove software".
Playing wmv etc. works fine for me using it.

is this groub dead ? what users like about mandriva 2010 ? i like 2010 version of mandriva using gnome i have used kde4 but it was too slow with my old computer so i change back to gnome and there is coming new 2.30 version of gnome so i wating for it

No , and yes Mandriva 2010 is the fantastic distro .
Best to use is to my opinion Gnome even on a fast computer like i have .
I already used KDE4.4.0 and KDE4.4.1 and i find it to buggy what i don't have with GNOME.
Also tried Mandriva 2010.1 GNOME with cooker repo's and it is promising.
So for me dumbs up for GNOME 2.30.
