This Is Not An Aero Clone

Artwork
Description:

I'm tired of seeing Vista clone themes and Bliss clone wallpapers. And judging by the way these things tend to get rated, most people agree with me.

Start showing some creativity, people!

I don't even see what's so beautiful about Vista.. atleast the widget style, it looks broken at some places. Wallpapers are nice though.. but no need to copy it.

well soon enough windows seven will be
here and that is when we stop seeing
vista copies, and start seeing seven
ones instead.

It's sad really, people tryin to make
linux so windows like as possible...

pretty soon they are gonna want viruses
too.

if linux was exactly the same and
looked exactly the same as windows
how would you know if it's better and
more beautiful??

Bill Gates is probably surfin kde-look
himself laughing at all the stupid vista
copies :D

This is the way of life - most people aren't creative. So, what do they do when they master Gimp or Krita? They copy other OSes' themes (usually they select the most recent OSes or the most buzzed).

That said, I confess that I absolutely hate the Vista look'n'feel. Even if I wasn't windophobic AND if Vista wasn't so slow even on hi-end hardware, I'd still dislike its theme. MS could never create a nice theme -- remember that ugly default XP theme with bright eye-burning colors (more suitable for kid's toys than for an OS they put a "professional" label on). Aren't there any good artists in Redmond?

Remember back some years ago when OS X was new? Everyone tried to imitate OS X. Now it's Vista.

Judging by the screenshot section on a Linux site I visit, OSX-alike themes are still popular (sadly).

hmmmmmmmmm, yeah, enlightenment is
coming strong... and being more and
more popular every minute, also, the
themers seem to be more creative for
it than for gnome :)

I might even try it out myself just to
see what all the fuss is about :D

It's definitely quite elegant, but I need more colors, otherwise my desktop feels gloomy.

I also hate how all plasma task bars are black. I wonder where the inspiration came from?

Once I finally switch to KDE4 as my primary DE, and have some free time, I definitely want to make a nice theme with better colors.

The default Oxygen theme is totally black, but there is gray, white, pink, blue, glass etc kind styles for plasma.

Altought that is now harder to do when you cant use pixmaps but SVG's and so many does not know well SVG editing as raster editing.

Vista, of course. KDE copies all newer M$' look'n'feel when Billy want to copy look of... erm... maybe GNOME. Have you seen Vi$ta's Open/Save dialog? I think that is more GNOME-like tnan GNOME's itself. And compiz/beryl has been taken from UNIX/OSX to Vi$ta.

And about
Quote:
black taskbars

Taskbar is Billy's name for Good Ol' GNOME Panel/Kicker. And, i think that this is bad name for a panel because:
First. Taskbar is only one widget(applet) that *sits* on panel.
Second. What do you say about second GNOME's panel that *sits* on top of desktop and has NO TASKBARS.

Sorry for lame English.

 Down with Vista copycats!

I've never cared for the Vista look at all. Furthermore, Vista is such a piece of crap. Therefore, I absolutely do NOT want my desktop looking like the Edsel of operating systems. Even so, I'd swear that every other theme uploaded as of late to GNOME-Look and Xfce-Look is either trying to impersonate Vista. Oddly enough, though, I don't have these same gripes about Windows XP or Mac impersonations.

Another thing I don't like is all these black themes. Maybe once in a while I'll see one I like and will download and install, but they are by far the exception.

Whatever happened to all those themes that were being cranked out a year or two ago? Thankfully they're still there on GNOME-Look and Xfce-Look, although you have to dig around for 'em. I for one would like to see a revival of themes like that, that had more color and more character to 'em.

Actually, I think dark themes can have character to them. It's hard to do, but possible. That's what people are working toward (and certainly what I'm working toward,) but it's not easy. Witness the spectacular failure of the Intrepid Ibex theme.
