Description:

NOTICE: This theme is over two years old and may not work due to updates to GNOME and the Murrine Engine. Please do not count on updates to this theme in the near future. Also, I didn't renew my 4shared account in time so the wallpapers are no longer available. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Background

I began the Macchiato project in November 2008. My goal was to create a visually appealing light theme that incorporates some dark touches and to find just the right balance between dark and light browns.

I abandoned the project in January 2009 after releasing version 0.1 to work on other theme projects. After those projects went nowhere, I decided to turn back to Macchiato to fix a bunch of coloration bugs once and for all. I released version 0.2 in February 2009.

However, the theme still had color problems. So I've been working on it in my spare time to fix some of the new bugs. I think I have finally fixed the most obvious errors.

I also made changes to the panel configuration toso that it would go great with the Smoke panel background image, which can be found here: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Smoke+-+a+gnome+panel+bg?content=99748

What is included:

Due to uneven focus while working on this theme, I am no longer including the Cairo-Dock and conky configurations, as they no longer match the new vision for the theme.

The theme pack now only contains the Macchiato theme itself as well as an updated Emerald theme. The new Emerald theme no longer has the curved upper left corner.

Before you install this theme

In order for this theme to work correctly, I highly suggest installing the newest version of the Murrine Engine (0.90.3). The current version in the Ubuntu Intrepid repos (0.60.1) is outdated and will not be sufficient for this theme to work correctly.

Changelog:

30 DEC 2008 - 0.1 - Initial release.
23 FEB 2009 - 0.2 - Fixed color bugs.
14 APR 2009 - 0.3 - Fixed more color bugs.

Over 14,000 downloads and counting! Thanks to all who have downloaded this theme so far!

Probably. I'm working on other projects right now, but I want to eventually get back to developing Macchiato because I still want to figure out how to fix some of the bugs in it.

I'm thinking of replacing Gnome with XFCE on my laptop, and if I do, I'll definitely use this theme.

I have been using this Conky for a very, very long time, so I don't really remember how to change the units, but I think that if you change "true" to "false" in the following line, it will default to metric units for you:

self.parser.add_option("-i","--imperial",dest="imperial", default=True, action="store_true", help=u"request imperial units, if omitted output is in metric. Not applicable at command line when using templates.")

I forgot to mention that you need to change this in the conkyForecast.py script that is found in the scripts folder.

 STYLE to PROFILE

Hi,

There are many instances of "style" in the gtkrc file. Do I change every one of them to "profile" or is it just one in particular?

Cheers.

You want to specifically change the following line:

style = MURRINE # engine style options: CANDIDO, CLEARLOOKS, MIST, MURRINE, NODOKA

to

profile = MURRINE # engine style options: CANDIDO, CLEARLOOKS, MIST, MURRINE, NODOKA

Thanks, I have done that now, plus I uncommented the line. Still it is not working though, uncommented or not. I have Murrine engine version 0.60.1-9.2 and am running Debian Lenny. Should it work with that Murrine version?

As I said regarding Metacity, if someone is interested in making a xfwm4 port of my Emerald theme, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't know how to make Metacity themes and I don't know how to make xfwm4 themes.

GTK and Emerald are all I know right now.
