Description:

NOTICE: This theme is over two years old and may not work due to updates to GNOME and the Murrine Engine. Please do not count on updates to this theme in the near future. Also, I didn't renew my 4shared account in time so the wallpapers are no longer available. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Background

I began the Macchiato project in November 2008. My goal was to create a visually appealing light theme that incorporates some dark touches and to find just the right balance between dark and light browns.

I abandoned the project in January 2009 after releasing version 0.1 to work on other theme projects. After those projects went nowhere, I decided to turn back to Macchiato to fix a bunch of coloration bugs once and for all. I released version 0.2 in February 2009.

However, the theme still had color problems. So I've been working on it in my spare time to fix some of the new bugs. I think I have finally fixed the most obvious errors.

I also made changes to the panel configuration toso that it would go great with the Smoke panel background image, which can be found here: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Smoke+-+a+gnome+panel+bg?content=99748

What is included:

Due to uneven focus while working on this theme, I am no longer including the Cairo-Dock and conky configurations, as they no longer match the new vision for the theme.

The theme pack now only contains the Macchiato theme itself as well as an updated Emerald theme. The new Emerald theme no longer has the curved upper left corner.

Before you install this theme

In order for this theme to work correctly, I highly suggest installing the newest version of the Murrine Engine (0.90.3). The current version in the Ubuntu Intrepid repos (0.60.1) is outdated and will not be sufficient for this theme to work correctly.

Changelog:

30 DEC 2008 - 0.1 - Initial release.
23 FEB 2009 - 0.2 - Fixed color bugs.
14 APR 2009 - 0.3 - Fixed more color bugs.

Over 14,000 downloads and counting! Thanks to all who have downloaded this theme so far!

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 btw.

I believe I have the normal Murrine engine installed, not "Murrine SVN". Do I need to remove the normal Murrine and then install the SVN version?

This question requires an answer that is beyond my knowledge to answer.

I've never tried to use the Murrine SVN on Gusty. I didn't even know it was possible.

You could try asking on Ubuntuforums, but sorry, I don't think I can help you.

 Fonts for conky?

I downloaded the package, but the .fonts folder doesn't contain anything. Could you include the Conky fonts? Thanks.

I added a link to the downloads list to the fonts. Just download them and install them.

 Style/Profile

If you just comment out the style or profile line it should work fine on all versions.

If anyone is still having difficulty finding the relevant line, search for "nodoka"

Cheers.

I'm sorry, I searched for the line 'nodoka', I got a hit, replaced style to profile. But when I change the theme, it just falls back to the Raleigh theme.

I don't know much about GTK themes and such, I'll need some step by step instructions. :S

I like your theme, but I wonder how you managed to suppress all icons in your bookmarks toolbar ?

Is it a line in UserChrome.css ?

Thanks for your help ;)

It's a Stylish config called "Bookmarks toolbar - text only" and can be found here: http://userstyles.org/styles/747

 Metacity?

Thanks for the theme! I was wondering though if you could make a Metacity window decoration for this theme? I really like the Emerald theme, but I don't use Emerald because it doesn't play nice with my system for some reason.

why, when an apply (like synaptic) run by run, don't use the macchiato gtk theme?

That's because applications run by root don't take on the GTK theme of the non-root user, because they are technically different users.

Try opening a terminal and entering these three lines:

sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root/.themes
sudo ln -s ~/.icons /root/.icons
sudo ln -s ~/.fonts /root/.fonts

This should copy your themes, icons, and fonts to root so that you can use the same GTK theme for root as you do for your normal user.
