Description:

VERSION 0.7.3

A straight & subtotal dark theme, with a focus on a quiet look and compatibility with openoffice, web-browsers, web-sites, evolution, thunderbird etc...

> > > >feedback wanted< < < <

-code completely reworked and rewritten-
-newest svn-murrine-engine strongly recommended-

inside the tar-ball you'll find:
-Emerald-theme: "greyhoundEMERALDnew"
-wallpaper (modified "white tiger")

original great wallpaper from cb2k is here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/White+Tiger?content=91800

original great Emerald-theme can be found here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/mac%27a%27like?content=91867

The Icons are a mix I made between the
"Smokikon 0.9", "Black&White2" and the "MinimalPerception"-Icon-Set and some icons i made myself. As soon I published them, I will put here the link.

I use the newest Cairo-Dock from svn with openGL.
Installation-guide for svn-version is here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993952&page=3

thx to thuban who made an openbox-version, d-link below

I'm working on it, check for updates and ENJOY!

Changelog:

v0.7.3
-workaround for compiz config settings manager, that way options are readable again
-desktop-applet got a better text-entry

v0.7.2
-found better solution for removing ugly murrine dots from selected items
-fixed several invisible text / arrows-issues in widgets and lists
-slight modification of scrollbar

v0.7.1
-important fix-

-commented out "style = MURRINE" option, which leads to conflicts under different murrine-engine-versions (thx to tksmashiw for his very useful hint)

-added a great new feature:
mozilla-browsers got own check- and radio-buttons that fit better with most web-sites out there

-fixed notify-widgets background color on non ubuntu-boxes (it was white, should be gray now)

-removed ugly white murrine dots on some widgets)

 Beautiful theme

And I don't usually use dark themes (hard on my eyes). I especially like that shade of blue that you used to edge the active buttons; makes them look back-lit.
Thanks! :)

thank u very much!
the buttons are made by myself, i thought we need something new, not mac-ish not win-sh, not gtk-ish, etc...
they are basically transparent layers, which makes compatibility possible with any web-site or any app...
I am going to improve this theme more, just come back in the future! thx

 Error in gtkrc?

by mschwartz on: Dec 7 2008

Score 50%

Hi,

Thanks for this theme. When I try to use this theme, I am getting an error message in the console:

.../.themes/TheGreyhoundTheme_v0.5/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:84: error: unexpected identifier `colorize_scrollbar', expected character `}'

This is on Fedora 10.

The problem in the gtkrc file is not immediately evident to me.

Any assistance would be welcome.

Thanks for your reply.

F10 comes with version 0.53 by default. I removed that RPM and installed Murrine from SVN. No problems with the configure, build or install.

Still no joy. Same error message and the theme does not display properly, presumably due to the error. Perhaps there is something else with F10 that conflicts.

No rush, but if somebody running F10 can get this theme to work properly, let me know how you did it.

Thanks.

thanks for this info.
I checked arround and it looks like your error-message is coming from the "colorize_scrollbar" option, which is a feature of the newest murrine.

0.53 is old. in the newest ubuntu we have 0.6XXX installed because of dust and other new themes.

you would have therefore two choices:

1)uncomment the sentence nr.84 in gtkrc with a # like this:
# colorize_scrollbar = TRUE # FALSE = disabled, TRUE = enabled

or

2) get the newest murrine-engine from svn, this would open you the doors for lots of other new murrine-themes aswell:

before you follow this instructions, be aware that those are for ubuntu, but if you are a bit familiar it should show you the way aswell.. so do it with caution at your own risk:
you should uninstall your gtk2-engine-murrine 0.53 pckg. you should also have everything one needs to compile, like autoconf tools etcetc..

i highly recommend checkinstall instead of make install,
checkinstall keeps your system clean and you can easely find and uninstall your self-compiled packages under synaptic.

$ sudo apt-get install subversion build-essential libtool autoconf
libgtk2.0-dev checkinstall
$ mkdir development && cd development
$ svn checkout http://svn.gnome.org/svn/murrine/trunk/ murrine
$ cd murrine
$ ./autogen.sh --enable-animation --prefix=/usr
$ make
$ sudo checkinstall -D --fstrans=no
you need to go through the checkinstall-wizard inside the terminal and correct the name and version, otherwise it will abort.
it is very easy as the wizard is well done.
i named it "gtk2-engines-murrine" and set version to "0.6".
you will end up with a nice build and installed .deb package which you can uninstall at anytime via synaptic.

good luck

I finally got it working.

I did have Murrine 0.6 from svn installed, as per my prior comment. That did not seem to help.

There were two additional error messages that I noted:

.../.themes/TheGreyhoundTheme_v0.5.1/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:104: error: unexpected identifier `style', expected character `}'

.../.themes/TheGreyhoundTheme_v0.5.1/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:1790: error: unexpected identifier `style', expected character `}'

With those two lines commented out, the theme now works.

Not sure if this is Fedora 10 specific. F10 uses GNOME 2.24, so perhaps something has changed in GNOME, whereby that syntax is not compatible.

hello, nice to hear that it is working for you.
the errors are connected to murrine-engines. i seem to have the latest actually, i just forgot that in the mean-time... that is why here i got no errors. but anyway, it is save to uncomment those options, they are not in use... i will include that in the next release around weekend.

thanks a lot!

I just thought that I would post a quick note here regarding the gtkrc issue.

From what I can tell from reading posts on other forums, the specific Murrine SVN snapshot that is being used by Ubuntu in the .deb for all of these new Ubuntu/Murrine themes is the only recent Murrine SVN version that supports these particular gtkrc tags.

Murrine SVN revs since that one snapshot will be incompatible and will result in the errors that I have posted about. Other similar themes here on GNOME-LOOK, which used the Ubuntu .deb for the Murrine SVN snapshot will all suffer the same problem.

This has caused a (pardon the pun) Dust Up over the incompatibilities on other distros when folks go get the latest Murrine SVN rev as I did, since we cannot use the .deb file.

The proper solution is for folks to modify their gtkrc files to be compatible with the latest Murrine SVN engine and not just the specific version used in the Ubuntu .deb file. Whether that will happen or not is open to discussion.

HTH.

hey, everything is just fine:
the tar is what you downloaded.
to install it you simply need to tell your theme-manager to install it by pointing to the file you downloaded, it will untar it and put the content under ~/.themes

otherwise just untar it yourself to /.themes

cheers

also, if you could open a terminal and from there start gcalctool (for example),
than change the theme to TheGreyHoundTheme and read in the terminal what it says?

ok, i think i fixed it.
there were some bleeding new murrine specific options that are infact not used in this theme, so i uncommented them. it should work now with standard murrine-engine.. if not please report.

if u could give me some debugging error output, than i could be of a much greater help!!
just do the following:
-
open the appearance-manager and switch to a working theme,
-
open a terminal and start gcalctool
-
open the appearance-manager and switch to the greyhound-theme
-
what do you read on the terminal?
paste that info here and i will be able to have a look..

also, my other question:
did u try other new murrine-themes, like dust? are they working on your sys?
