Description:

VERSION 0.7.3

A straight & subtotal dark theme, with a focus on a quiet look and compatibility with openoffice, web-browsers, web-sites, evolution, thunderbird etc...

> > > >feedback wanted< < < <

-code completely reworked and rewritten-
-newest svn-murrine-engine strongly recommended-

inside the tar-ball you'll find:
-Emerald-theme: "greyhoundEMERALDnew"
-wallpaper (modified "white tiger")

original great wallpaper from cb2k is here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/White+Tiger?content=91800

original great Emerald-theme can be found here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/mac%27a%27like?content=91867

The Icons are a mix I made between the
"Smokikon 0.9", "Black&White2" and the "MinimalPerception"-Icon-Set and some icons i made myself. As soon I published them, I will put here the link.

I use the newest Cairo-Dock from svn with openGL.
Installation-guide for svn-version is here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993952&page=3

thx to thuban who made an openbox-version, d-link below

I'm working on it, check for updates and ENJOY!

Changelog:

v0.7.3
-workaround for compiz config settings manager, that way options are readable again
-desktop-applet got a better text-entry

v0.7.2
-found better solution for removing ugly murrine dots from selected items
-fixed several invisible text / arrows-issues in widgets and lists
-slight modification of scrollbar

v0.7.1
-important fix-

-commented out "style = MURRINE" option, which leads to conflicts under different murrine-engine-versions (thx to tksmashiw for his very useful hint)

-added a great new feature:
mozilla-browsers got own check- and radio-buttons that fit better with most web-sites out there

-fixed notify-widgets background color on non ubuntu-boxes (it was white, should be gray now)

-removed ugly white murrine dots on some widgets)

 menuitem gap is too big

I like this theme, the only problem is the too big gap between menuitems of Firefox and Thunderbird, can this be fixed in next version?

Here is the screenshot for your reference.

thx for your report,

i like that it is like that, but i have to agree, that it is not always good, especially on thunderbird.

i will try fix that within the next days.

thx!

 My new best theme

My best theme was Blue Joy for a long time, but finally it give up the lead to this theme.
I changed gtkrc to my taste.

# show menuitem icons/favicons of firefox
gtk-menu-images = 1
# standard distance between menuitems
style "MenuItem"
{xthickness = 2}

I hope you find it informative.

In that last screenshot, I always used to love the Pink Panther when I was real little. NBC used to have that in their Saturday morning lineup back in the late 60's and early 70's.

 where are the menu icons?

by bubi on: Nov 19 2008

All the icons of my xfce menus disappear when I use this theme... Can't figure out why. Andi n the Cairo Dock theme, the sub docks don't show up.

The theme looks nice, but I question it's usabilty for this.

yes, that is true, i started to make this theme under xfce and back than i liked the menus without icons:
it's faster and more minimal.
of course one could doubt its usability if one could not read the menu. :)
i was planning in bringing up the icons under xfce in the coming weeks for the xfce users. cairo-dock-theming is new for me, anyway, its version 0.2.1 right now, i am learning.. ;)

Well, the usability issue goes for the Cairo Dock theme, not for the missing icons, but now I see I didn't write that very clearly... sorry for that. :-)

Well, talking about Cairo Dock, I really like the look of your theme, but without subdocks it is not usable for me as I use very much the Stack and Weather applets. But I believe you will soon fix this. :-)

aha, yes i understand, well thx for that hint.
i went hunting and found out that i'm using n older version of cairo-dock, that might be the problem aswell.. i'll try to fix this issue till next update-release, and perhaps u could tell me than next time if it is working or not?!

Of course, I can.

In the meantime, I came up with a workaround. If I choose your theme in Cairo Dock's themes dialog without checking the dock's behavior checkbox (and thus refusing the default behavior of your theme), the subdocks appear. But it is just because it kept the previous theme's behavior... :-/ So, I will be waiting for that fix.

i tried to install the newest cairo-dock, but it didnt work, so i am stuck to my older version 1.5.something.
this means, i will work on it, but it takes longer than i thought..:)
now in the meantime i have been working on the next upgrade of the theme and cairo-dock will be the same for now...

I use this repo for Cairo Dock in sources.list:

## Cairo Dock repository.
deb http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu hardy cairo-dock

And I have v. 1.6.3.1. I believe it is the newest release version.

If you are an Ubuntu user, try the repo for yourself. Oh, yes, you should get the GPG key by typing:

wget -q http://repository.cairo-dock.org/ubuntu/cairo-dock.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
