Description:

Concept
This time I wanted to create a darker theme with a pixmap bg. Further all control-elements (buttons, scrollbars... etc) should be transparent.
To create this overlay effect and getting it displayed correctly wasn't as easy as I thought it would be and this may cause problems. This makes the theme pretty experimental as well... :)

Contents
+ 2xgtk
+ 2xmetacity
+ xfwm4
+ 2xemerald
+ gdm
+ userContent.css (Firefox3)
+ NowPlaying screenlet theme

GDM
If you have a widescreen monitor, please rename the file "bg-wide.png" to "bg.png" in the gdm-theme directory.

Metacity
Because metacity resizes the titlebar if the title font is too big, I recommend to use the font "snap" as window title font. With other fonts try sizes around 7 and 8.

Note
To enjoy the theme in all it's sexyness be sure to copy the userContent.css to your firefox profile.
If you find any bugs please let me know (if you have a minute a screenhot would be much appreciated).
The pattern for the bg is from theinspirationgallery.com (modified of course).

Screenshot
The wallpaper (also used as bg for the gdm-theme) is from mandolux.com (slightly modified). Thx again Mando for letting me use it!

 VERY nice

But for some reason, the Metacity themes never wan to work right. For example, in the previous Mira version the border thing around the window title would display incorrectly for the active window. Now that it has been moved to the menu bars, a break appears between the window and the title bar.
Any ideas?

The problem with Metacity is that it resizes the title bar if the font size of the title is over 8 (or so). For most other metacity themes this is not a problem but because of the pattern even a little resizing becomes visible.
The only way to prevent this is to lower the title font size or to create a bigger titlebar (and that won't look good).
Metacity isn't really happy with this kind of pattern design... emerald is superior.

Just tested it again and with the font "snap" that I use it fits perfectly. With the font "DejaVu Sans" it's font size 7.

 OpenOffice.org Writer

Hi, I am still loving the theme, but as with most dark themes there is the issue that OpenOffice's colours are reversed (black background, white text).

Is there a fix for this?

Yes thats really annoying. OpenOffice automatically switches into high contrast mode if you use dark themes. A good solution is explained in this article: http://www.rebelzero.com/fixes/openofficeorg-dark-theme-workaround-with-ubuntu-804/8

I frequently use OO myself and simply fixed it by adding this line to /opt/openoffice/program/soffice (depending on your distro it can also be /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice):

export GTK2_RC_FILES=/home/sen/.themes/Shiki-Wine/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

This forces all OO applications to use the shiki-wine theme for example.
The only bad thing about this fix is that you have to readd this line after every OpenOffice upgrade.

Thanks for the links and the info!

I'll look into them later on today. Your solution seems simpler so I will give it a try first (I am running OO.org 3.0).

This looks awesome. The only thing that is annoying me and I don't know if it's something I'm doing/not doing but I want all the fonts to be bigger. I'm trying to change the size through system/appearance/font tab (Ubuntu). I'm using the snap font btw.

Hi, Snap is a bitmap font and not resizable.
