Description:

Concept
This time I wanted to create a darker theme with a pixmap bg. Further all control-elements (buttons, scrollbars... etc) should be transparent.
To create this overlay effect and getting it displayed correctly wasn't as easy as I thought it would be and this may cause problems. This makes the theme pretty experimental as well... :)

Contents
+ 2xgtk
+ 2xmetacity
+ xfwm4
+ 2xemerald
+ gdm
+ userContent.css (Firefox3)
+ NowPlaying screenlet theme

GDM
If you have a widescreen monitor, please rename the file "bg-wide.png" to "bg.png" in the gdm-theme directory.

Metacity
Because metacity resizes the titlebar if the title font is too big, I recommend to use the font "snap" as window title font. With other fonts try sizes around 7 and 8.

Note
To enjoy the theme in all it's sexyness be sure to copy the userContent.css to your firefox profile.
If you find any bugs please let me know (if you have a minute a screenhot would be much appreciated).
The pattern for the bg is from theinspirationgallery.com (modified of course).

Screenshot
The wallpaper (also used as bg for the gdm-theme) is from mandolux.com (slightly modified). Thx again Mando for letting me use it!
Icons: Smokikon by magnussuther http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Smokikon?content=90577

 Almost perfect theme

by miquel on: Oct 9 2008

Score 50%

I'm using it as my default theme but i've got some issues with the windows titlebars. I'm using compiz+gnome in ubuntu 8.04 and DotMatrix.ttf doesn't renders in the window titlebar.

And text falls out of the titlebar when a window has the focus ans isn't maximized.

I'm working trying to fix the issues. I'll let you know.

I use the font "Snap" from the artwiz fonts pack for the titlebar and everything else.

I've never experienced the problems you have stated above so maybe using a different font will fix it.

Here you can see the screenshot with the window titlebar problem:

I can't figure out what is happening. I've tried a lot of fonts.

Ok, that's not the emerald theme that I've included in the pack on your screenshot.
Only the metacity theme has round borders like this...

So I guess you are using the built in compositing feature of metacity.

If you want emerald follow this howto:
http://hacktivision.com/index.php/2008/06/07/how-to-enhance-ubuntu-8-04-hardy-heron-e?blog=2

With the metacity theme I could reproduce the error you have. It looks like this if the font size of the titlebar is too high. Lowering it will probably solve your problem but I would suggest to switch to compiz fusion an emerald for quality reasons.

miquel = mitabe?

I just wrote a message miquel.
I still don't know what the problem can be and I can't reproduce it. A friend of mine uses Ubuntu as well and had no problems.
Like I mentioned in the privat message please give me some details and yes a screenshot would be great! :)

 re: PCF Fonts + Emerald

How are you getting Emerald to draw PCF fonts?

I have enabled them on my system and can see and use them in Gnome, but Emerald refuses to draw bitmap fonts when I choose them. Instead it draws what appears to be "Sans" in the titlebar whenever a PCF font is chosen.

 resizing problem

by TheWizzard on: Oct 18 2008

Score 50%

I have a strange problem with this theme ... Can't resize the windows from the bottom edge. All other edges let me resize them, except the bottom one, which doesn't show the resizing arrow.

Beside that, is it possible to have the wallpaper in widescreen resolution?

And I love the GDM

Thx!
You're right, resizing on the bottom doesn't work, normally I use only the edges so I haven't noticed this.
Thx for informing me about this, I'll look into it.

I've only modded the 5:4 version of the wallpaper, the original from mandolux is available in many resolutions though.
Go to "http://www.mandolux.com/desktops/flowers/" and look for "mandolux-nonef-*". These are the originals of the wallpaper.
I just got the permission from mando to release my mod as a gdm background. If you want a widescreen version of the mod please write me a pm.

Seems like this can't be fixed without making the bottom border larger: http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=9578 :(

One of the greatest themes here. But i'm expecting problems with metacity: when window unmaximized and focused, there is 2-3px line appears in the bottom of window's title and that crashes appearance.

Thanks to SchattenGessang I could figure out this problem. The current metacity theme is getting stretched vertically if you use a titlebar font bigger than 8px.
To solve this I'll have to create a new set of the metacity theme with a bigger titlebar to make it usable with bigger fonts.
I'm busy with rl stuff atm but I'll release an update for the theme and add a bigger titlebar version of the metacity theme in the next days!

Wow, amazing work man. I commented over at DA, and i'm still loving this. Just feels like a well thought out theme. Also the emerald just makes this perfect. Can't wait to see more of your work. :)
