Description:

Dust is a concept for a new, refreshing look for Ubuntu. The idea was to take the defining aesthetic elements of Ubuntu and remix it into something clean, modern, functional, and unique.

It's a new take on the Ubuntu aesthetic using a dark palette and subtle colors.

 The menu button

by KingCam on: Sep 13 2008

Score 50%

As of the September 13th update, there is a new menu button, and well... it sucks, even after I flipped the image to try and make it flow with the design better, I find it is still very ugly. I would recommend that is looses the 'inset', and becomes just a symbol, like the circle you already have. The circle btw, is flawed as well, if you zoom in on it, it has 2 misplaced pixels on it, making it look like it has horns.

Enough of the critisism, I must say that this is one of the most professional looking themes for GTK, good work!

Reverted to the old left-aligned version anyway. The centered text wasn't so nice.

No, scratch my previous comment. We'll have a better menu image soon.

 More bugs

Unfortunately Eclipse is buggy as well.

Dark toolbars are really ugly. Please consider a "light-toolbar" hack for Eclipse - if possible - as well.

Anyways, I really like Dust!

Did you try the DEBs of Murrine, and did you extract to ~/.themes?

 New scrollbar

by someguydude on: Sep 19 2008

That new scrollbar is just awful. I mean, it's a big fat thing that spoils an otherwise pretty sleek theme. I'm using it now, but I had to delete the scrollbar folder entirely and modify the GTKRC to trim it down a la ClearGlow. Now it's good stuff.

Exactly my opinion.

New Scrollbar = ugly.

Sep 14 is definitely the most usable release so far (I dislike current toolbar as well)

I don't mind it.. only thing I'd change would probably be to make the background a little darker so there's more contrast between the scrollbar's fore/background.

 GNOME != Ubuntu != OS

Please, understand that you are making a GNOME theme, not the Ubuntu theme.

GNOME is the desktop environment what is used in Ubuntu as desktop. When you make new theme for Ubuntu, you make it for GNOME.

Be advised that you should think all GNOME users (Linux, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris etc) and not just Ubuntu distribution users of Linux operating system.

I understand that the theme is usable in all Gnome installations, whether they be on Ubuntu, or any other Linux distribution, or even another OS.

However, the intended audience for the theme are Ubuntu users as it targets to be part of the community themes package of Ubuntu. This is more of a marketing move as this theme proposes to push the aesthetic branding of Ubuntu into a new direction.

it loads up once you have installed Human themes and Murrine, but the panels/toolbar etc do not take effect,

havent pinpointed problem.. yet
