Description:

Dust is a concept for a new, refreshing look for Ubuntu. The idea was to take the defining aesthetic elements of Ubuntu and remix it into something clean, modern, functional, and unique.

It's a new take on the Ubuntu aesthetic using a dark palette and subtle colors.

 First of all..

It's a good theme. It's solid well-made. Definetly voted good.

However, I don't think it will be a wise choice for the default theme in Intrepid. It is dark, and it is too dark. When makinga default theme for a distribution that prides itself with being for the masses - for everyone, these niche-tendencies does not work.

I believe in the lighter themes, when it comes to Ubuntu. All these dark and even more dark trends has made me worry about the final outcome. In my case, I don't see particulary well - which means that I won't be able to use this for very long periods of time.

And I'm just one person. Imagine all those other people, individuals who won't be able to use a dark theme productively. Of course, one can always change the theme into one with more contrast - but should one really need to, with Ubuntu? When it's for human beings, it's for all human beings.

I personally find a dark theme much, much easier on the eyes. If I wanted to stare at eye scorching white there are plenty of light bulbs in my house. :)

Why? It makes the words and icons extremely easy to read and see.

FYI: As of Sept 9, the dropdown menus look as they should, but the Firefox3 awesomebar dropdown is abhorrently ugly.

Try having a translucent dropdown menu in Compiz. This'll make it look good I promise ;)
