Description:

It is time to give a modern and professional look to our desktop! The new theme makes more clever use of orange (not over-use it) and is mainly color-neutral. It is designed for Ubuntu in mind but can be used in other distros that may bear warm colors.

Installation: (requires pixbuf theme engine)
Very simple. Just double click the file newwave-(xxx).gtp where (xxx) is the version number e.g. 050. Note that if you have previous version of the theme in your home folder you need to remove it first. You may need to log out then log in to make all changes appear (e.g. handlers, lines). For more information on how to fix Firefox's menubar text and how to use the theme in root programs see the README file.

Extras:
The package also contains:
- New Wave Configurator (GUI),
- Emerald themes,
- Compiz-fusion settings,
- Second theme with dark menus,
- Firefox skin,
- Some metacity tweaks.
- Time applet tips.
Theme for xfwm4 (Xubuntu) can be downloaded in the Download section of this page.

 menubar hack

by falkonator on: Aug 1 2009

Score 50%

Is it possible to use hack fixing OpenOffice menubars only and use prepared theme without any dirty hacks for Firefox (it looks much better that way)?

Other thing, when enabling hack, not only Firefox and OpenOffice menubars change color from dark to bright. It also happens to Qt4 apps (in my case it's VLC player and Kadu communicator).

PS.
I love Your theme, it's one of the most beautiful and elegant themes I've ever seen and I'm really happy using it despite little problems with Firefox and OpenOffice.

I know that the hack spans a little bit wider than it should be but that is the only easy way right now. That is why it is turned off by default too.

However I think there is one other solution (using custom theme for OO) but that would need much more testing so I won't be able to deliver it soon but I will start working on it though. Thanks for making me think more about it and giving me that idea :)

Special theme for OOo would be great, in my opinion.
So... it's time to arm with patience :)

 Netbeans

Hello Anton,
since I installed Ubuntu 9.04, your theme is the only one I have used and I won't change it for a realy long time. Truely and honestly, I think that this is the best theme for gnome there is.
The only problem I have now is the menu in Netbeans, the menu words are black just as in Firefox with the default theme.
I know that you can't fix everything that you read here in the comments, but I just wanted you to know.
Thanks again for the best theme!

Thanks :)

I have to ask if this the menubar was ok in the previous version of the theme 0.8.0? Is Eclipse having the same problem? Can you answer by posting a bug here:

Unfortunately I don't know about Eclipse because I don't use it.
Take care and keep the good work.

 compiz settings

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the recommended compiz settings you provide could "break" some people's desktop. I think you enable the blur effects and at least for me, it caused every window to turn completely black after bootup. I had to reset all gnome settings from the terminal before login. At first I didn't know what caused the problem but a few minutes ago I enabled blur and the same thing happened again.

I just wanted to let you know since some people my experience this same problem. Keep up on the great work on the theme, it has been my main theme since before it was included in Jaunty!

Thanks for the feedback.

I know that the settings are a bit heavy but I tried to warn people in the README file. But it seems that this is not your case. Can you report your bug here and give some more info about the specs of your pc:

You mean that the menus in the normal New Wave theme with light menus appear as in every standard GTK app? If yes that is a great news indeed and I will remove the section for OO in the Configurator.

Thank you for sending these screenshots. The problem is indeed solved but still that orange rectangle on the clicked menubar has to be improved to match the style of New Wave. Overall this is one of the best improvements in many months. Thanks for sharing it with me and the other users.
