Description:

A dark (black & white) theme for gnome desktop.
Thanks to Gnome Fanatic for the name!

I just recieved mail being told this
theme is the default in PCLOS Gnome 2008 !

More info and download here: http://linuxgator.org/

suggestions very welcome!

PLS! tell me what you think!

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here, then another archive pops up,do
the same for that.
3.open a terminal and run these commands:

first
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes

second (this one fixes firefox, don't need this for ff3, only 2 This fix is made by user twrock, so if he wants me to delete it i will)
cp /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/userChrome.css $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Changelog:

2.2.2 probably the last update, this should
fix the message of an engine "" not installed
I can't try it myself if it works (since I don't have
gnome installed) so if anyone would be kind
to let me know if it works, it would be kind :)
This will probably be my last fix as I'm not on
gnome anymore.

2.2.1 Fixed my previous F**kup. (at least I hope so)
(it's been tested on ubunut 7.10). If anyone still
has any kind of problem please be so kind and let me
know!

To read full changelog read changelog.txt in
the SlicknesS folder.

chmod 777 on an image is plain wrong.

Try 644, it should work.

Sure :D

I don't know, I didn't get it to work
with nothing when I made the instructions
(I have tried afterwards and one doesn't
have to do anything at all to the image :D) so I was mad and I just thought, what
the hell... it doesn't damage the system in
any way either so.... well, I will edit
the instructions.

thanks for pointing that out tho!

You mean that you have clearlooks style on
the menues?!?!?!?! if that is the case
then please try first to re-download the
theme and re-apply and if it still happens
(you might have to restart x to fully apply
the theme) ,since that bug should be fixed
in the latest 2.2.1 version. If the problem
still is there please provide info on
what distro and version of gnome you are using :)

I'd be greatful!

Yeah that was overglossed....

Anyway , there is no option like that,
I had just made some images that where
1280 px wide and had rounded corners and
loaded them manually in the panel settings.

There is no way to get rounded panels
without doing that : - )

If you want to have rounded corners
just edit the panel-bg.png in the
panel folder and load it in the panel
properties.

Hope this answers your question!

 a few ideas and qs

Hi,

Absolutely great theme, I have on all my computers.

Why do you advice to install the theme this way:
"sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes"

when gnome is able to install tar.gz file directly from the theme manager? theme manager does not make it available for all users, but it is probably easier to install it for most users.

A few questions:
1. which font do you use in your screenshots? it looks wonderful
2. Where do I change the bg-color of menus/tabs? I would like to have these much brighter?
3. I would like to have tabs in applications and windows list in the taskbar not so round. Where can I change this?

Sorry for wanting to change your theme :). Thanks a lot

Well thanks!!

There are many reasons to why I advice people to install that way... to name a couple:

1. when install with theme manager the
update-manager (in ubuntu) and synaptic
(in ubuntu) and other apps you run as
root will show flat gtk (unthemed) if
installed with theme manager.
(so people will start asking about these
apps why they look different, when
they do it now I just point them
to my instructions... problem solved.)

2. Artist taner has made a fantastic wallpaper
to go with this theme and this is
a good way for me to tell people
how to get it running.

3. As you said this installs for all
users.

4. It really helps me help users when
I help them with problems related to
the theme.

The font is artiz-snap , get it here:
http://artwizaleczapka.sourceforge.net/

Actually, this theme does not support
changin colors.....yet, maybe in the
future if I feel like further developing
this theme.

This is a pixmaps theme, so you can't
adjust the roundess (you'd have to
manually edit the pixmaps loaded by
the theme.)

and no problem. sorry I couldn't make
a more customizable theme!

Hope this answers your questions!

 color error

 by s0larian on: Apr 17 2008

Hi,

in gtkrc you have following lines:

fg[SELECTED] = "#FFFFFF"
bg[SELECTED] = "#ffffff"

Can this be right? For example if you select a folder within gftp, you just see a white line (white text on white background).

I changed
bg[SELECTED] = "#ffffff"

to

bg[SELECTED] = "#3d3d3d"

then everything works fine.

Thanks!

I wasn't sure if that broke anything bug now
I know!

Since that was my desperate try to fix the
gnome-control-center bug....
(I had it 3d3d3d before)

Have to figure out another way then!

Thanks for reporting!
