Description:

A dark (black & white) theme for gnome desktop.
Thanks to Gnome Fanatic for the name!

I just recieved mail being told this
theme is the default in PCLOS Gnome 2008 !

More info and download here: http://linuxgator.org/

suggestions very welcome!

PLS! tell me what you think!

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here, then another archive pops up,do
the same for that.
3.open a terminal and run these commands:

first
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes

second (this one fixes firefox, don't need this for ff3, only 2 This fix is made by user twrock, so if he wants me to delete it i will)
cp /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/userChrome.css $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Changelog:

2.2.2 probably the last update, this should
fix the message of an engine "" not installed
I can't try it myself if it works (since I don't have
gnome installed) so if anyone would be kind
to let me know if it works, it would be kind :)
This will probably be my last fix as I'm not on
gnome anymore.

2.2.1 Fixed my previous F**kup. (at least I hope so)
(it's been tested on ubunut 7.10). If anyone still
has any kind of problem please be so kind and let me
know!

To read full changelog read changelog.txt in
the SlicknesS folder.

Hi Alex!

Thanks! and slickness black will have
the same developments when I have time,
I have a lot to fix in this theme still,
and it's important since this is the default
theme in PCLOS GNOME 2008 distro... so
there must not be any bugs!!!!!

If you have any knowledge in themeing/gtkrc
feel very free to develope slickness-black
yourself and send me the changes and I will
be very very grateful!

 Transparency

Hi Rob,

what a geat theme! This is the most beautiful theme I've seen so far! Great job!

I have a little problem with the transparency. Your first screenshot shows transparent panels and a transparent main menu but my panels as well as the main menu don't show any transparency?

Maybe you can give me a hint about how to solve this.

Cheers, peanut

Thanks!

I use compiz-fusion to draw transparency and
other effects....

simply add this in ccsm opacity settings(found under general settings)

(name=gnome-panel | type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu)

set transparency to 80... or at least that's
what I have.

if you don't use compiz I don't think there
is a way to achieve this.

Thanks a lot for liking my theme!

Hope this helps

That's nice and all, but it makes the entire window transparent. I meant make JUST the menu bar transparent, and leave the rest of the window opaque. However, with the opacity set to 80, having the whole window be transparent isn't too much of a problem.

Yeah I know, As I said to you earlier it's
not possible, not as long as the menubar
uses pixmap engine (I know of cimi's murrine
engine with RGBA support! Which is absolutely
amazing!

However I wouldn't get the look on the menubar
with that that I have now.

Maybe in the future someone with some
seriuos hacking skills will make a
pixmap engine with RGBA support, until then
,I'm doomed.

Thank you For your kind words about my
work Tim!!

 PANIC.... S.O.S.....

Hi Rob,

I get on gnome-look at least once a week to see if you have any updates ;)

Today I found 2.1, installed, and got this:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/xrfang/2379897916/

Is there anything wrong with my settings, or it is a new bug in 2.1?

Again, I love your theme, Thanks!

Shannon

False alarm!

I change to another theme then back to SlicknesS, the problem is gone...

oh btw, the changelog still shows v2.0, not 2.1 :)

Glad you got it worked out! to be completely
sure that the new version is applied you
actually have to restart x (I know it sounds
crazy but I noticed that a while ago).

Thanks for pointing out the changelog,
I was actually writing the new changes there
and then copy pasted them here, so it seems
I just forgot to save the d**n document :D

Anyway, thanks for liking my work!!

I'm currently pretty happy with this theme
now, some bugs are still to be fixed
but after that, I probably start to
work on something new when I have some
ideas.... Thanks for listening!
