 gtk2-engines-nimbus

by Karmicbastler on: Nov 24 2009

Score 50%

hey together,

I have tested the new gtk2-engines-nimbus, which are available on http://launchpad.net.

But I found, that this one is pretty buggy and only causes collission-errors between the icontheme itself and the new gtk2-engines-nimbus.

So the soluton is only, to use the one from Jaunty. And there is a good tutorial, how to install this nice theme in ubuntu. The tutorial can be found here:
http://www.ramoonus.nl/2009/08/02/howto-install-the-nimbus-theme-in-ubuntu/comment-page-1/

Try this, and everything will run well. I have also posted about the problem with this new gtk-engine. I hope, this will be fixed and I have also written a personal message to the author of this ppa. (he has a profil under the same name here:
http://www.linuxmint-art.org/content/show.php/Nimbus+GTK2+engine+(debian+packages+PPA)?content=97717

So I hope, that this error will be fixed somewhen. For this time, follow the instruction on the Link in this post to the tutorial

Greetings
Karmicbastler

hi together,

I have found an upgraded Repository for you.

It is here:
https://launchpad.net/~merlwiz79/+archive/nimbus

Klick on "Details about this ppa" to see the new lines to add into your soures.list.

That meens the following steps:
open a Terminal and type: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list and enter your password.

Then your sources-list will appeare.

There, scroll completely down until you see the line with the nimbus-ppa with the ending: jaunty main. Delete this line from your sources-list. Then this line will be empty.
Then type: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/merlwiz79/nimbus/ubuntu karmic main. Then enter a new line and type:
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/merlwiz79/nimbus/ubuntu karmic main.

Then go to the button "save" in the Top-Menuline of your sources-list to save these changes.

Then close your sources-list and go back to your Terminal.

There type the following: sudo apt-get update and let it run through completely. Then repete this with this command: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. Let this run through completely again. This will download the new version of this ppa including theme, gtk2-engines-nimbus andthe icons. Then this will be installed. Before it will be asked, if you want to install these changes. Confirm this with typing Y for yes.

When installation has completed, you can close your Terminal and enyoy the new version fo the nimbus-theme including the new gtk2-ngine.

Greetings
Karmicbastler

Just came across this theme here. Nimbus is such an easy theme to install, why do you need to do all that for Ubuntu? I thought ubu was meant to be easy.

Please, define "compact". Because I can't find anything unnecessary in this theme.

Whatever you think, it may be wrong...

Here is a link to what would be considered compact theme :http://gnome-look.org/content/search.php

I prefer less space wasted in menus or nautilus layout . I think gnome apps like Rhythmbox waste way to much space .

Currently my favorite is Elementary compact theme . Here is a screenshot :

I really like Nimbus theme, it's colour scheme and all the widgets and buttons , but i find it little too bulky .

I think this kind of requests must be send to the developers of Nimbus theme. I'm just a packager.

Thank guys for your replay . I had no idea about difference between packager and actual theme creator . As for Graphite variation i will try it out . Thank a lot again !
