Description:

This is the OpenSolaris default theme - Nimbus. It includes:

- Gtk engine
- Gtk theme
- Metacity theme
- Icons

These are the packages, which I've made with this tuttorial: http://www.vinodlive.com/2007/08/20/make-your-ubuntu-desktop-more-beautiful.

These packages should be compatible with all debian based distributions.

You can get the latest version of the source from http://dlc.sun.com/osol/jds/downloads/extras/nimbus

I'm glad this was made for Ubuntu/Debian. This theme was my only enjoyable experience from OpenSolaris.

How do I uninstall this theme?

Using Ubuntu Intrepid I tried to remove the theme the usual way within appearance, but the delete option won't highlight. I also checked to see if "nimbus" was in synaptic and I didn't see it there. A little help would be really appreciated.

There are two packages - nimbus-icon-theme and gtk2-engines-nimbus. The easiest way to find them is to search in Synaptic by status "Installed - local or obsolete" But you must find them simply by searching by keyword "nimbus".

Whatever you think, it may be wrong...

Thanks for the reply. For whatever reason I still couldn't find the package in synaptic. So, I just sudo dpkg -r nimbus-icons and now all is well.

My packages was made from the original, unmodified source. Where are these "other versions"?

As I can see, these are older versions, packed by another guys. But they also are based on the same Sun Microsystems's theme. 0.1.1 is the latest version.

 system-file-manager missing

by rivasdiaz on: Feb 10 2009

When you copy a file from one location to another, an icon appears on the notification area. The icon shown on Nimbus is ugly because the icon is too big.

I solved it downscaling /usr/share/icons/nimbus/32x32/apps/system-file-manager.png to 24x24 and creating all required links.

This change could make this litle anoyance go away.
