Description:

GTK2 theme based on VistaBut theme from roberTO21 (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=32227).
All the thanks go to roberTO21

The best metacity themes that match this gtk theme are LiNsta Black Flat, LiNsta Black Plastic, LiNsta Black Plastic & Alu, and LiNsta Silver Plastic.

I changed small things in its theme :
-the theme is clearer;
-some pixmaps were improved;
-I changed the top panel style. Now, you can find 2 themes : black and gray. I'm working on a Royal Blue one.
-I changed the menubar style. Now you can find more than 20 themes. You can make yours :-) Don't hesitate to share them !
-I changed the toolbar style. There are other styles. Choose yours.

How to customize ?
-All the styles are defined in 4 files : menubar-custom.rc, toolbar-custom.rc, panel_custom.rc, and menu-custom.rc. Have a look to them.
-To change the top panel theme : comment and/or uncomment the lines 18, 19 in the gtkrc file. panel_silver.rc and panel_black-plastic.rc contain the suitable styles to modify to obtain the desired panel. To have the best result, go to the panel properties, in the background tab, and select the right background (go to the panel folder in the GTK2 theme folder).
-To change the menubars, go at the end of the gtkrc file. Change the lines 1822, 1823, 1824 with one of the styles defined in the menubar-custom.rc file. You can define one style for particular windows (see lines 1825, 1826, and 1827), but don't forget that the more there are definitions like these, the more the GUI is slow !
-To change toolbars, change the lines 1815 to 1820 with one of the styles defined in the toolbar-custom.rc file.
-For the meuns style, all styles are defined in the menu-custom.rc file. The silver menu is ok.

But I would like to define a black menu, and the menuitem font color is still black, and I would like this to be white. I tested lots of things but the menuitems are always black. Can you help me ?

I also need your help to define a particular menu style for the panel (black menus), and another for all other windows and apps (silver menus). How can I do this ?

 Not to be rude...

I don't mean to be rude when I say this, but most people (at least where I am) come to Linux to get away from Windows, and the fact that people are macking Windows themes here just makes it seem like Microsoft has better "style" when it comes to desktop evoirments, so please, don't let it seem that way, create an original theme, not a Microsoft clone.

English is not my mother language. So I'm not really able to tell you what I can think about what you are saying here.

First, have a look to RaKris comment.

Then, what I can say is that : I think every OS has its good and bad things. My tastes at this time go to Vista look, not to Micro$oft OS. One or two years ago, I made an OSX like theme, because I thought its look was very cool. Not because I thought Mac OSX was the best OS.

Today there are many OSX and Vista themes around the net. Everybody can choose its prefered theme, and it's **FREEDOM**. Isn't it ?

So, when you say "... please, don't let it seem that way, create an original theme, not a Microsoft clone.", it's you opinion, not mine. You can defend it, it's you choice. But not here.

If you don't want "a Microsoft clone", go away.

Let people choose what is the best for them. It is not your problem.

I fully agree! The beauty of Linux is in its freedom: freedom to customise it to your needs and to make it look the way you want it. If somebody wants it to look like Vista or MAC OSX what's wrong with that?

I am using VistaBut theme right now and enjoy having it very much :) Subsequently I like you have an idea of changing it slightly. The only problem is that after I install your theme I can not choose it from System->Preferences->Theme. The only thing can be done here is shoosing separate parts of theeme: Menu, Borders, etc. and setting thing up manually what is not convenient to my mind.

Am I missing something?

No ... If you want to select this theme by choosing it from System->Preferences->Theme, you have to select each part of a metatheme you will define (your metacity theme, your gtk2/Gnome theme, and your icon theme), then save them with a new name, and a description. The new metatheme will appear in the theme list.

The theme is great. What desklet/moniters are you using, and the bar on the bottom, what is it?

The desklets are adesklets. I created them like a test of adesklets.

Go to http://adesklets.sourceforge.net/ for more details about adesklets.

For the bottom panel, see previous comments.

this is real hot!!!
It looks good, nothing else matters.
Poeple change to Linux, because they want a fast and stable OS and not because the don't like the look and feel of windows.
I only can say: Keep making themes!!!
The more Freedom of Choice we have the better it is!!!!!!!!
