Description:

borrocop suggested a Gentle XFCE theme awhile ago here:
http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php?content=33744

I think he has created a stunning image of what XFCE could look like, so I went ahead and put together the Window Manager protion of it.

Billy Cantrell created a gtk theme for Gentle, all I did was remove his panel portions, and I included Olivier Fourdan's suggestion for defining the XFWM4's color in the gtrkrc file.

If there is anything that needs changed, or doesn't look appropriate please comment below.

Changelog:

v 1.1: I centered the titles, decreased the height of the window manager by 1 px, created a different appearance for the close-active button, and added different appearnces for the pressed buttons.

v 1.2: I've added shadows to the active and inactive title text, I've defined the colors of the title text directly in the window manager theme, I added shadows to all windows and the panels, menus are now transparent, windows are now transparent when they are being moved.

v 1.3: I've added the gtk theme based on Billy Cantrell's work.

v 1.4: I included Olivier Fourdan's suggestion for defining the XFWM4's color in the gtrkrc file, so the GTK theme will work better with other XFWM4 themes.

v 2.0: I fixed an error that Thunderbird was causing with this theme (a big thanks to kashirigi for pointing this problem out to me), and I've now made it so that the xfwm automatically uses whatever color is called for in the gtk theme.

 Wonderful Job

Beautiful work. I love how subdued the overall look is. If you need some help with the GTK theme - let me know. I will be happy to help as much as I possibly can (which probably won't be much)

Thanks for the generous offer, but I've found that Billy Cantrell (bvc) has already made a good gtk theme. All I did was remove his panel info, and it looks just about right, now.

 Great Stuff!

Hey there,

A really fantastic theme! Really, good work! :-)

The only thing though, is the window list box that comes up when using alt+tab.
None of the window icons are highlighted, so you can't tell from look at the window list box, which of the windows has focus. I had a look at the theme files, but I wasn't sure which gtk widget was used for the box or the displayed icons so I had no idea where to make a change. Any advise will be appreciated!

Again great stuff and hope you do more! :-D

That seems to be a shortcoming in ALL pixmap based gtk themes. Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix it. If anyone has a suggestion, please list it below.

 Weird theme problem

This theme is beautiful. Unfortunately, it causes my xserver to crash if I run Mozilla Thunderbird. It only happens with this theme.

Very weird.

I am still trying to figure out what is causing this. It seems that it is actually XFCE that is crashing, and not the xserver. I will let you know when I come up with a solution to this problem. Thanks for the heads up on this, as I don't use Thunderbird myself.

I found that the problem was being caused by Thunderbird. It was requesting menu icons on the titlebar, which I had not provided since I did not want a menu on the titlebar. I've added some generic fillers for the menu, but still left them inactive in my theme. This seems to alleviate the problem.

Billy,

Thanks for the update, but your first link is broken, and your second link is for Gentle-LT which is nice, but I prefer Gentle original. I can't find your posting of just Gentle anywhere on Looky or on your blog. I would greatly appreciate it if you posted it somewhere for the many fans of your work.

Thanks

Sean
