I wanted something that wasn't so bright, and better highlighted what it was your mouse was moving over.

Thanks to Cwiiis for finding so many bugs that I would never have noticed.

To change the default scrollbar colour open up the gtk.rc file in the Black theme folder and uncomment the correspending line (commenting out the colour you don't want.)

Very nice theme, I really like it and think it'd be nice to see this with a few colour variations (my top choices being green and brown :))

But unfortunately, a few prominent bugs I've come across:
- When highlighting radio buttons or check buttons in a dialogue, the associated text becomes white (and thus invisible) - The text colour should probably stay black here
- Arrows in table row headers and menus are black when they get highlighted (and thus invisible) - It would be nice if arrows became white in these situations
- Default buttons are very slightly larger than normal buttons, but otherwise no more prominent - A black outline or something, similar to other themes (e.g. Clearlooks) would be nice here

And as a preference, I think the scrollbar sliders would look better if they were the same colour as buttons, but became black when highligted/activated - As they are, I find them a little distracting.

Great theme though, I've voted good and am using it now :)

Most gtk dialogues will set a default button, i.e. a button that will get activated when you hit return. If you do an Alt+F2 in gnome, for example, the Run button is the default button. This is meant to get highlighted somehow (theme-specific) - usually it's by some sort of coloured outline. In your theme, currently, it's very slightly larger than a normal button, but hardly noticeable. Ideally, it'd have some sort of dark outline, or something like that.

Just noticed another bug too - "Toolbar/toolbutton-prelight.png" is missing, so when you mouse-over buttons in toolbars, nothing happens (normally, they appear like highlighted buttons).

I've made most of the changes in the updated version. I'm still trying to get the prelight on the menubars to actually work, though.

To get toolbar prelight to work, either rename toolbar-prelight.png in Black/gtk-2.0/Toolbar/ to toolbutton-prelight.png, or change it in the gtkrc :)

I still get the white text highlight in dialogues on check boxes/radio buttons - See the run dialogue for an example, or Epiphany

Hmm, did you have any error installing the theme? It turns out I set the archive up wroing and it wasn't overwriting the old theme. (re-uploaded now though)

If not, have you tried killing gnome-panel and nautilus? That got me a few times.

It seems it didn't update properly, I tried it on a new computer and it was different :)

New bugs though - The button text highlight in dialogues is black now instead of white, and the margin in gedit no longer shows up (which is pretty critical for me, I need it for coding :))

Also, now that I try it with the grey scroll-bars, I kind of missed the black ones - I think I preferred with black on the whole, but it's all an issue of taste - maybe the theme could come with instructions on how to pick either style?

Once again, thanks for making a great theme, it's nice to see something different after all the Clearlooks colour variations :)

I tried using the Calibri font but it looks completely different on my system (quite ugly). Did you change some rendering option?

Maybe. I have all my fonts set to size 8 with the window title in bold.

96 DPI. Smoothing is set at Grayscale. Hinting is set at None. Subpixel order is at RGB.

Hi!
You've good ideas... and I think that it will be great with some modifications.
One good way to improve is (in my opinion) to use similar colors with "clearlooks-cairo-graphite", that looks good with black.
Now black parts don't convince me much...

Please continue with your work! I like It!

PS: please can you add a link of my theme in the description and said that "Gray" is the original theme? This because I've made, and I'll make new ones!

And where did "Gray" come from??? I dont want to be a jerk but I had remade everything from the VistaBut theme. All you did was drop it to gray scale. Give credit where credit is due...

My problem is not with you're them but with your request for recognition on this one. I dont care that it took you days to go in a menu and choose "grayscale." The metacity theme has nothing to do with anything here, it is not part of this argument.

My problem came when you treated my theme as a repository and someone that saw yours and redid it was told to pump your name, not mine. Rightfully a decent person would have given the true source. I cant make you do anything and you have shown your colours. I am just dissapointed by the lack of respect for an artist here.

I mean tit for tat, how "graphically" different is your theme from Mint???

It took me days because the first release were build without grayscale and with a different procedure with gimp.
The only thing to say is that he is using _my_ modification of your theme with a mod to _my_ metacity.
Not yours.

If you wonna feel more artist don't release your theme with GPL.

If you made thirsty of glory you're going in the bad way because all us in Gnomelook know you for your themes and your most downloaded suites like graphite and gperfection.

Do you wonna be our new God?

All of us know your talent and your ability... It doesn't change with a different credit due or not.

Please let the community (like me and anyone else) modify any artwork!

yes, but Black could have been made just the same from his original (Mint), Gray just saved a little work. That's the point. The question is, why didn't you suggest that Mint be recognized? You may think that wasn't your job, and it wasn't, until you requested Gray, made from Mint, be recognized as if it was original.

It doesn't really matter because it all comes back to design, and the design is lokeed's. So design concept to lokheed and images to both, or you,....whatever was used.

I've read "Gray" so I supposed that he brings my theme and he modified it (at least I was sure seeing my metacity modified).
So I remember to credit my work. And my work has the credit to lokheed.

Black --> Gray --> Mint.

What's the matter?

PS: I agree with the design but now I have no ideas and Mint was the only pixmap theme that I like, so I modified it (I absolutely dislike your last works for example, but surely your "artist-way" is better than mines!)

As for my last few themes....don't use them. There just simple and different, and peolpe don't like different. I expected that. I like them and new someone else would, so I made them because I had a lot of unexpected time on my hands to kill. Funny, you don't like them but you asked for a white version? I give it, and you make no comment til now that I agree with lokheed?

btw, both Gray and Black do not have working focus rings for text entry like Mint does, yet Black claims to be for a user that wants to know more what is happening with the gui. Why is that? Can't darken an image a little?

Well, this is odd.

I decided to make this theme after seeing Gray here on Gnome-Look, I liked the overall look, but the buttons and colour scheme wern't to my liking so I decided to alter it too be much more to my preference.

To be honest I had no intention at all of even releasing this when I started, but after spending a few hours on it and delving into the theme code I thought, what the hell, someone might like it so why not.

So here we are, I credited cimi86 when I first uploaded the theme, but didn't include his theme's name, he asked me to change this and put the theme it was built upon in the description, hardly unreasonable I thought, so I went ahead and did it. Now, I had no idea his theme was also built upon someone elses until reading all of this just now.

I have no problem giving credit where it's due, I gave Cwiiis credit for helping find so many problems I'd introduced into the theme, and now I'll add Lokheed to the description too.

I havn't finished with this by a longshot, There's still bugs and inconsistencies that I want to address, but so far I've just fighting the good fight with the pixmap engine.

Anyway... I'll get back to The GIMP now.
