 shadow-gap.png???

 by Lupine925 on: Jan 16 2005

Score 50%

First off, beautiful job, thx!!!

I'm seeing a problem with shadow-gap.png file, as it does not exist. When launching something from terminal, I get:

/usr/share/themes/Outcrop/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:97: Unable to locate image file in pixmap_path: "shadow-gap.png"
/usr/share/themes/Outcrop/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:107: Background image options specified without filename

I checked out "/usr/share/themes/Outcrop/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" file and on line 97 it refers to a "shadow-gap.png" file, however that file does is not the one in "/usr/share/themes/Outcrop/gtk-2.0/". The file that is in "/usr/share/themes/Outcrop/gtk-2.0/" is called shadow.png Once I renamed this file to shadow-gap.png the errors stopped. Was this the right thing to do?

oh no,
I am sorry -- my fault -- it should be called prerelease (0.0).

rename 'shadow-gap.png' to 'empty.png'

Thaks for info!

 Absolutely beautiful

This is gorgeous!

I liked the first go around and this new version is impressive!

Two things:

1. There is something just a little "funny" in the upper left hand corner of the scrollbar handle. Can't tell what it is, but you can see it in the new preview. Looks almost like it is dog-eared.

2. Any consideration for putting together an xfwm4 theme for those of us using Xfce? The metacity theme adds a nice sense of depth to the overall theme, which is not available under Xfce's WM themes.

Thanks for the great work!

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks better... :-)

On the xfwm4 themes, would you be interested in a pointer to a How-To? There is one at the Xfce site.

Let me know. If not, I would certainly understand.

Thanks again for the great work!

I won't make the xfce theme I am afraid (hate learning :D), but the link would be handy -- just in case :)

Any consideration you might have is appreciated.

The link is:

http://www.xfce.org/xfwm4-theme-howto/

The latest version of Xfce is 4.2 and some additional notes for WM theming are towards the bottom of the page.

Xfce uses GTK for it's UI, so we can utilize your GTK themes there, which I have enjoyed for some time.

I have no doubt that Xfce users would enjoy your WM themes greatly.

How's that for "sucking up".... ;-)

Thanks again for all of your hard work!

 >= 0.2

I love this theme, its been a long time since I came across one so original and fresh, and first of all, I must give my congratulations!

But, (and there always is, isn't there? :p) I have to say I'm sticking with 0.1 - Although I don't mind that the theme has been lightened in the later versions, I very much dislike the changes to the scrollbar - I liked them being dark as they were in 0.1. Am I the only one with this opinion?

no you're not the only one. While in something like rhythmbox the dark scrollbars *were a bit chaotic but that's expected given the scheme so I understood. Now, they don't fit the scheme at all IMO but I appreciate the effort to make it lighter. Too...Ana? The new light scrollbar takes way from its originality IMO. I still use .01 as well :)

My intention was not to make the scrollbars ligher, but to change them,
I'm not 100% satisfied too, so expect futher changes in scrollbar -- in certain direction :)

one more thing,
I also liked the dark scrollbar color more, but was (and still am) afraid, that it would be too contrast for 'Joe the user',
well I'll take a chance again :)

Hi Witek,

i must say i prefer the new scollbars. Exactly the change i've been hoping for since the ones from 0.1 were too dark for me.
You are doing very original stuff, that's for sure!

Perhaps easy-to-follow instructions to switch dark/light scrollbars are called for? Of course I'll wait to see what happens in future versions, I'm sure you have more imagination than me :) But for now, I'll stick with 0.1 - I can't really imagine the scrollbars getting much better than they are there :)

Ok, I'll confess.
Those scrollbars (0.1) so as the check and radio buttons, have been a part of my other, never published theme.
That's the reason of the confusion.

I've uploaded Outcrop, when it was not ready -- and have made new scrollbars in a hurry -- good shape, but wrong color sheme.

 Great work!

Great work, one comment I have though is that in Pan the task bars at the bottom (that move as files are downloaded or articles are loaded) don't really show up well as they blend too well into the background of it, without any real indication that there is a progress bar there, making this app look a bit odd.

Thanks!

If you meant, that there is no trough under the progress sider, then I must say:
"It's a feature, this theme just looks like that, it was intended"

If I missuderstood you, please explain again or show me a screenshot.

 Confusing checkers

Great theme, but there's a problem at least for me when checking a multiple checker (the sqare one, not the round one) it's very very difficult to see if it's checked or not. You could make something more different for a checked and unchecked widget.

Very nice theme! What would you say about changing the text in the menu item that is selected to white, or light grey, so that it shows better against the grey?

then fg[PRELIGHT] wouldn't be seen in other widgets like buttons. It's an unfortunate limitation in pixmap/svg gtk themes. You can't choose a special color for many of the different widgets. The menuitem is one of the ones you can't...at this time.
