Description:

Clearlooks is new modern looking engine, based on Bluecurve. It has the looks of various themes blended together, resulting in a theme that's easy on the eyes and visually pleasing ;)

The difference with pixmap based themes, is that it does not sacrifice a lot of speed.

Since it's an engine, the installation differs from a 'normal' theme. Just run "./configure --prefix=/usr && make install" and you should be set.

Note: make sure that ~/.gtkrc-2.0 is not overriding a theme, as it has priority over the theme managers.

When updating from a previous version of Clearlooks keep in mind that applications still running will continue to use the old version of the engine. Switching themes may cause incompatibilities with the new theme definition. Those applications will then revert to the default GTK look. When this happens you will have to restart those applications. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Now, drool at the screenshots, and enjoy using it :)

!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As of version 0.4, there is an optional animated progressbar. It has to be enabled manually by the brave. To do this, install it with "./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-animation" followed by "make install" as root.

GTK+ developers consider this new feature a horrible hack. But it's cool! We've tested it quite well, and it doesn't break anything we know of. If an application crashes, make sure that Clearlooks isn't the cause. If it is, please notify me.

!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER NOTE !!!!!!!!

Clearlooks has a mailinglist. If you have a question, please send it there. The address is:

THE METACITY THEME HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS PACKAGE. You should get it seperately from http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=21237

Fixed crash in OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 + Ximian.
Applied patch from Cary Coady to fix a segfault when progressbar has no parent.

Consistent rendering of buttons in glade and gimp.
Compatability fix for GTK 2.2 from Hongli Lai.
Forgot to mention new listview headers in 0.6.0!

Clearlooks 0.6:
New menuitem style.
Listview item gradients enabled by default.
Tweaked radio- and checkboxes.

 FC3 64 bits

Great theme! Although I've got to add this symlink to make it work on FC3 64bits:

ln -s /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/engines/libclearlooks.so /usr/lib64/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/engines/

Thanks for the theme.

 Easy to look at

I use Linux all day at work and at home. While I regularly switch themes at home this theme is so easy on my eyes that I use it exclusively at work. Little wonder, if the reports are correct, that this theme will be the default for Gnome 2.12.

Nope, but it will most certainly get included and maybe it will also become default for 2.12. :) We'll see. If not, then it probably means that an ever better theme came along and that might not be so bad either. ;) Of course I'd be happy if Clearlooks makes it.

Another excellent release. Clearlooks just keeps getting better and better!

As an aside, is there any way to install this on a box without having root access? Where do I put the engine or how do I tell GTK+ where to look for the engines?

 Great theme!

This theme is simply awesome! I do have one suggestion though... With version 0.4, the progress bars now have diagonal stripes. I liked the style from 0.3 much better, as it was alot cleaner. The new one is more KDEish to me, and I really like how Gnome goes for simplicity. I would love to see the progressbars reverted to the 0.3 style. Everything else is perfect!

Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Cool! The theme rocks. But I agree with previous poster - if I disable animations(for me they are cute :)) the progress bars look worse than in 0.3

I agree with parent -- the new progressbar looks awful, please revert it to the much cleaner-looking style...
Also, I think it would be better to change the menu borders to something lighter than black, perhaps like the Industrial theme; and make menu item highlight box a bit more round.

Clearlooks v0.3 is the most polished and stunning GTK+ theme that I've ever seen. Kudos to the developers! However, I recently installed v0.4 and like the other posters I was very disappointed with some of the alterations. The striped progress bar looks very out of place and contradicts the otherwise clean appearance of the theme. I also find the stripe on an active tab distracting as well. The color on the stripe is loud and draws too much attention to itself--it's distracting.

I urge the developers to *please* consider reverting to the v0.3 look or at least offering this option when running ./configure

Thanks

 bug #168897

by vnoel on: Mar 4 2005

Score 50%

Clearlooks is quickly becoming the best theme ever. The new usability features of 0.4 are just great.

Could one of the developers please take a look at bug #168897 :
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168897

It is about a gtk+ bug that leads certain themes (e.g. industrial, bluecurve and clearlooks) to render the menu bar applet incorrectly :
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=38111&action=view

Themes can avoid this bug with a small modification of the gtkrc :
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=168897#c20

It would be cool if ClearLooks was not affected by the bug.
