Description:

Clearlooks is new modern looking engine, based on Bluecurve. It has the looks of various themes blended together, resulting in a theme that's easy on the eyes and visually pleasing ;)

The difference with pixmap based themes, is that it does not sacrifice a lot of speed.

Since it's an engine, the installation differs from a 'normal' theme. Just run "./configure --prefix=/usr && make install" and you should be set.

Note: make sure that ~/.gtkrc-2.0 is not overriding a theme, as it has priority over the theme managers.

When updating from a previous version of Clearlooks keep in mind that applications still running will continue to use the old version of the engine. Switching themes may cause incompatibilities with the new theme definition. Those applications will then revert to the default GTK look. When this happens you will have to restart those applications. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Now, drool at the screenshots, and enjoy using it :)

!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As of version 0.4, there is an optional animated progressbar. It has to be enabled manually by the brave. To do this, install it with "./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-animation" followed by "make install" as root.

GTK+ developers consider this new feature a horrible hack. But it's cool! We've tested it quite well, and it doesn't break anything we know of. If an application crashes, make sure that Clearlooks isn't the cause. If it is, please notify me.

!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER NOTE !!!!!!!!

Clearlooks has a mailinglist. If you have a question, please send it there. The address is:

THE METACITY THEME HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS PACKAGE. You should get it seperately from http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=21237

 evolution crashes

I love this theme, but I found a small bug : it makes evolution (the 2.2 series) crash - just open the calendar with a few tasks open, and it will crash. I don't the crash with any other theme.

This bug has been reported before, and fixed. Next bugfix release is this weekend.

Unfortunately, 0.3 is taking a bit longer.

Then fix the eog (eye of gnome) crashing too. Now it just refuses to load pictures and dies away. Works with other themes just fine.

Fedora core 3 and Gnome 2.8

You didn't say the magic word... (hint: it starts with 'P' and ends with "lease")

Yea you're right, I forgot.

Would you please fix it? :)

Updating eog won't do, because apt/yum says eog is already the most recent version. And there's no way I'm going to DL a source tarball and compile it...

btw, I have "eog-2.8.0-3"

Instead of chasing changes and renaming, editing etc....I've deleted my clearlooks 3 pack and will maintain Clearlooks-Big_Pack at
http://bvc.kernow-webhosting.com/theme/gtk/Clearlooks-Big_Pack.tar.gz
ClearlooksBluey
ClearlooksAna
ClearlooksMilk
were contrib'd by me and are in the engine install BUT are different in thicknesses, menubar's and do not include stock icons from roberTO's Milk-2.0 which are bluecurve stock, Ana stock icons from Ana, and My Edge stock icons.....well, like them more than Milks.

It include a Nuvola which requires gnome-themes-extras Nuvola to be installed.
http://bvc.kernow-webhosting.com/theme/screenshots/ClearlooksNuvola.jpg

and an Orange that includes and uses gartoon stock icons.

 Impressive

Great work: simple, elegant, clear. I think that such an engine should be the default for Gnome. It is aesthetically appealing but still looks very professional.

It's probably too late for Gnome 2.10, but why not proposing it for inclusion into 2.12 (or 3.0 or whatever)?

I noticed a slight decline in score. This really hurts my feelings, and I don't think I like that :'(

So please, let me know how to improve Clearlooks!

I think you'll find that normal. Most that are going to vote already have and can not again. As you update the upload the downloads go up without further votes, so the 'Score' comes down. I've seen this with all my stuff. Go look a the d3a gtk theme. Top dog for a long time....but coming down now. It's normal. I don't know how the ratio works, I just know what I've seen.

 keep up

by vnoel on: Jan 24 2005

Don't worry, this theme is easily one of the best around. Easily better than industrial (the buttons look much better IMO, and don't change size without explanation) and the very subtle colours and widget rounding make it look better than regular bluecurve.

Just one remark : I hope you'll keep the "simple" philosophy of clearlooks in future release - ie don't get carried away adding useless details everywhere :) It's already pretty much perfect as it is. The scrollbars are the only elements that don't "fit" with the rest of the theme.
