Description:

Clearlooks is new modern looking engine, based on Bluecurve. It has the looks of various themes blended together, resulting in a theme that's easy on the eyes and visually pleasing ;)

The difference with pixmap based themes, is that it does not sacrifice a lot of speed.

Since it's an engine, the installation differs from a 'normal' theme. Just run "./configure --prefix=/usr && make install" and you should be set.

Note: make sure that ~/.gtkrc-2.0 is not overriding a theme, as it has priority over the theme managers.

When updating from a previous version of Clearlooks keep in mind that applications still running will continue to use the old version of the engine. Switching themes may cause incompatibilities with the new theme definition. Those applications will then revert to the default GTK look. When this happens you will have to restart those applications. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Now, drool at the screenshots, and enjoy using it :)

!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As of version 0.4, there is an optional animated progressbar. It has to be enabled manually by the brave. To do this, install it with "./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-animation" followed by "make install" as root.

GTK+ developers consider this new feature a horrible hack. But it's cool! We've tested it quite well, and it doesn't break anything we know of. If an application crashes, make sure that Clearlooks isn't the cause. If it is, please notify me.

!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER NOTE !!!!!!!!

Clearlooks has a mailinglist. If you have a question, please send it there. The address is:

THE METACITY THEME HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS PACKAGE. You should get it seperately from http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=21237

 updated Big_Pack

*thx Remenic for fixing darker color schemes*
I updated the Big_Pack
http://home.houston.rr.com/bvc/gtk/Clearlooks-Big_Pack-0.5.tar.bz2
to include my new Clearlooks-3.1-Ergo based on the System-3.1-Ergo Metacity theme here at gnome-look. Also looks good with Chiro, c2, SystemG etc...
here's the screenie
http://home.houston.rr.com/bvc/Clearlooks-3.1-Ergo.jpg
and yes, blue has been done and done again, and is and was done so for good reason....it's beautiful, IMO.

I had been wanting to do this but the earlier versions of Clearlooks wasn't good on darker colors because of the white 3d edges not to mention a few people asked for a deeper blue color scheme. Enjoy! I also brightened up the notebook.

oh, be sure to get the latest d3a-icons if you are going to use them with it, since it has the new gtk dir enabling navigation icons from an icon theme.

I've updated it again.

Added a scrollbar 'style' and other color stuff to the gtkrc's of the 2 new color schemes and Lucidity for a more usable gtkrc. You'll notice the widgets stand out more. I'll probably continue to see what I can do to the others.

Just change your font size under Font Preferences -> Window title font.

 Titlebar font size

by Vann on: Mar 27 2005

Score 50%

Whenever I change the titlebar font size I get strange artifacts in the upper left and right corners of the window, where the titlebar meets the window border. I'm using the 0.5 metacity theme in addition to the GTK+ theme.

Does anyone else have this same problem?

You can find a screenshot showing the problem here :
http://members.cox.net/vkusa/Screenshot.png

Look at the transition between the title bar and the rest of the window, to the left and right of the menu bar. There's a one-pixel offset somewhere.

I'm using clearlooks 0.5.1 (metacity) and 0.5 (gtk engine & theme), with gtk+ 2.6 from cvs and gnome 2.10 (more-or-less CVS).

Hmm, I've never seen that. What does "whenever I change font size" mean, does it go away after a reboot or does it only happen with certain font-sizes?

Well I didn't try to change the font size, this bug shows for me all the time using Bitstream Vera Sans at size 10.

Ok, I found what triggers the bug : just disable the font hinting in the font preferences panel. Then the 1-pixel gap appears. If you enable font hinting, everything looks ok.

Just one more case of things not working with font hinting disabled...

 Exclude Gnome Icons?

by smitjel on: Apr 1 2005

Score 50%

How do you hack clearlooks so it doesn't use the included gnome icons? I asked this before for version 0.4 and someone said to comment out the icon includes in the gtkrc file and that worked. But it's different with the new version of course. Help! Thanks!

 Question On Install

I've ran the commands to install this theme, and I see it in the Theme Preferences Window. When I click on Theme Details, I see it under Controls, but not under Window Borders. Am I doing something wrong?

They took the metacity out. You need to get it separately.

Hehe, thanks. I'm still such a n00b when it comes to this. So, MetaCity is the titlebar portion?

Yes,
Controls = GTK
Window Border = Metacity
If this would be an official GNOME site, they'd probably make it more obvious. ;)
