Submitted:  Jun 20 2011
Updated:  Jul 18 2011

Description:

This is just an addon for Faenza, meaning you'll have to have Faenza installed for this to work.
Feel free to edit the index.theme file if you don't have a dark panel, it currently falls back to Faenza-dark first.

If you happen to stumble upon a xfce-specific icon that's missing feel free to send me a message or write a comment about it.

In the screenshot you can see Faenza-Xfce paired with Faenza-Cupertino and the new Thunar from git ;)

Changelog:

0.2.1 improved some icons
0.2 addon theme (easier maintainability)
0.1 standalone theme

 Using Faenza-Cupertino with Faenza-Xfce

 by babarosa on: Jun 21 2011

Score 58%

Hi there,

since Xubuntu comes with a blue colour scheme:

You have to have Faenza and Faenza-Cupertino already installed.

Unpack this tarball, rename the created folder to "Faenza-Xfce" and copy it to /usr/share/icons being sudo.

Now edit the file "index.theme", in the line "Inherits=" change to "Faenza-Cupertino":

[Icon Theme]
Name=Faenza-Xfce
Inherits=Faenza-Cupertino
Comment=Addon Icon-theme for Faenza
Directories=apps/48,apps/scalable

[apps/48]
Size=48
Context=Apps
Type=fixed

[apps/scalable]
Size=96
Context=Apps
Type=Scalable
MinSize=64
MaxSize=128

Now you have everywhere the blue cloured Faenza icon theme ;-)

Thank you, voted you up.
Michael

Can one of the concerned people tell me why they vote my profile down into the red zone within a few hours?

Well, even though I'm an Xfce user (on CrunchBang Statler, BTW), I already have Faenza on here, which I downloaded from GNOME-Look. While I haven't voted either way on yours, I would suspect that someone may have thought that you were merely copying the theme from GNOME-Look over to here with no modifications (and to be honest, I can't tell that there are any), but that is just a guess on my part.

Hi there,

I am no developer/modificator of that theme nor did I copy it from somewhere. I am simply an user who posted a tipp how to use this "faenza-xfce"-theme (which has got a brown color by default) with "faenza-cupertino" (so you get a blue colour). For posting this tipp my profile was voted down. I don't care personally (I am quite an old guy now), but there is nothing "human" nor "democratic" in it

Cheers, Michael

first you should install the regular faenza icon-pack (link is above), untar the package and move the folder (with superuser rights) to /usr/share/icons

after following the same procedure with faenza-xfce you can select the icon theme in xfce4-settings-manager > appearance > icons.

that's it.

If you want you can add a download link to the archlinux user repository with an package build of your icon theme.

 WOW! Folders?

Wow, I am a huge fan of you guys of the Shimmer Project, I regularly check your github account to grab the latest sources and I really really like all your projects!!! You guys are great designer (and I can wait to see how much you will improve xfce look with the design SIG).

By the way...I read the TODO page of the Faenza-xfce...Do you still plan to recolor faenza-cupertino folder to a greyier blue?
It would be awesome :)

hey!
thanks for all the praise - it's nice to know that some people appreciate what we do :)
with respect to the faenza plans: yes, there was/is such a plan, i'm not 100% sure about when i'd have time and get around to doing that as there are 100 other things on my todo-list that are more important at the moment (mostly Greybird-stuff).

if you feel like helping out with any of our stuff feel free to check in at #shimmer on irc.freenode.org anytime ;)

Thanks for your reply!
I understand that there are a lot of things to do (and btw Greybird is day by day more beautiful: as a netbook user I really like the compact xfwm) and I will patiently wait for the folders :)
Faenza XFCE already look amazing :) (and I think that with the right folders tone that match greybird they will become just phenomenal).
I really hope to see Greybird and Faenza XFCE not only in Xubuntu (that I do not personally use) but also as XFCE default choices.

Thank you for the invite, sadly I have not the skills to help with the artworks, but if I find any bug or suggestion I will check at #shimmer!

Bye and thanks!

thanks, digging up bugs and reporting them is already quite helpful!

there was a discussion about shipping greybird or albatross in xfce by default, but there were understandable doubts about the murrine-engine dependency. i'll probably try to do either a port of greybird to the xfce-gtk-engine or just a new theme (at least if the xfce-devs are in for it).
the situation with the icon-theme is similar, i think they are already quite challenged with the codebase they have to maintain (and develop) and every extra package feels like a ton of bricks.

so all in all i assume it'll be up to distros/packagers how xfce looks by default.

Hi! It's me again :)

Did you take a look at the new Titheum's iconset Faience?

I think that the Azur version can match the blue shade of greybird theme much more better than faenza cupertino...

Obviously it's only my opinion, but what do you think about that?

Bye!

 congratulations

I just wanted to congratulate you, i find the whole shimmerproject amazing; the only thing lacking would be to improve gmusicbrowser enqueue options but even that i think is coming. And are you really going to colorize the cupertino icons? That would be awesome as i rather prefer the brown ones over the blue (too bright for me) they have right now. But a bit cooler would make them perfect and more integrated with greybird. Will you also add support for wicd, which seems to be the network manager (in my view,of course) most closely related to xfce philosophy?

about the gmusicbrowser queuemodes: yeah, i just hacked together a similar-artists queuemode, which automagically fills your queue with artists similar to the one that's currently playing. there'll be an update in the ppa one of these days (gotta fix a few other things first).

about the faenza-folders: i do take your request seriously (even more so now that there are already two) - meaning: it's on my list - but i don't know when i'll get around to that. supporting gtk3 with greybird has kept (and will keep) me busy for a while.
