I don't have Ubuntu.
And when I wanted to try on my archlinux box, AUR compilation uses to many patch, and override many libraries. It broke my gtk.

I can't test it.

Tried it on a netbook and notebook and absolutely hated it, I switched to mint because of unity and found out mint was always better I just didn't know it because I never tested it before this happened. I'm sure there is a lot of folks that will love it though as for me and the 6 computers I am putting mint on (I'm not the only one that hated unity in this house lol or my cousins house), we say no way unity you divided us away from you. If I knew mint was as good as it is years ago I would of switched long ago and never bothered with ubuntu (even though one version of mint is ubuntu based even that version is better.

Shuttleworth is egocentric, always want to make ubuntu different of other GNU/Linux distros, but never want to make it better. Ubuntu is the evil in Linux world. Unity sucks. Actually, Gnome 3 sux, not only Ubuntu!

i'm trying it on my crappy netbook and it's perfect... unity working great. I'm not sure i'll use unity on my notebook, but i really appreciate the attempt to make the desktop more and more user friendly and good looking. Anyway who doesn't like unity can still choose the traditional desktop at the login

I like it. For example : the dock is on the left by default. It's good because lots of screens are in the 16/10 size.

I am very disappointed and sad with the direction Mark Shuttleworth and Ubuntu are going. I've spent a lot of time tweaking my Gnome 2.x desktop with the eye candy I've found here at gnome-look.org and now have one of the most awesome and cool looking desktops in the world! One of the reasons I've liked Linux is the ability to customize it exactly the way you want it. Now Mark Shuttleworth is taking that away in one fell swoop. Not only is the Unity Desktop extremely ugly and boring, you can't customize it the way you want it. The Taskbar is stuck on the left side and you can't move it. I don't want to use this Taskbar and menus system - I have everything everything accessable through my very cool AWN dock. Besides, the whole thing is dumbed-down and made to look like a tablet computer. I don't want my desktop computer to look like a tablet. I have everything looking exactly the way I want it and I don't want to be forced to change it all according to someone else's whims! That's more like another operating system - not Linux! In Ubuntu we apparently have the ability to use Gnome 2.x one last time with the new 11.04 but that is going away with 11.10 when we will be forced to use Unity. Gnome 3.x doesn't look much better either, either. This is a sad day. It may be time to switch distros...

have you tried to choose the "classic" interface at the login? you shouldn't have problems

Yes, but that is going away in 6 months with the next version of Ubuntu (11.10). From what I've read the only Desktop choice available will be Unity. Unless there is a change in Mark Shuttleworth's plans, we will be forced to use it. Hasta la vista, Gnome!

That would be great if you still can install Gnome 2.x on Ubuntu 11.10 and have it be compatible and work OK! It appears, however, that it won't be included with the Ubuntu 11.10 install, only Unity. I don't know if Gnome 2.x will still be available for installation at that time, maybe only Gnome 3.x, which doesn't look much better than Unity. The reason I still want Gnome 2.x is that I've spent a lot of time getting my Desktop looking exactly the way I want it and I won't be able to duplicate it with Unity or Gnome 3.x.
