GTK 2.x Theme/Style

Minimum required   GTK 2.x

Submitted:  Dec 29 2010
Updated:  Jan 12 2011

Description:

This theme is a collaboration between me and Ceebeebg whose mock up was the initial inspiration behind Atolm:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Mock+up+-+Proposal?content=136369

You will need the murrine, pixbuf and equinox gtk engines to use this theme. The AwOken icon theme is also highly recommended as is Nautilus Elementary.

Installation :

PPA :

Make sure you have uninstalled any older versions of the theme before installing via ppa. For good measure type on a terminal :

rm -R ~/.themes/Atolm

to install the Equinox gtk engine (provided by Tiheum) :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-equinox

to install Atolm :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nikount/orta-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install atolm-theme

to install the Atolm xfwm4 decorators :

sudo apt-get install atolm-xfwm4-decorators

to install the Atolm emerald decorator :

sudo apt-get install atolm-emerald-decorators

Manual Installation :

just extract the contents of the zip file somewhere and drag and drop the Atolm.tar.gz and Atolm-Squared.tar.gz to the Appearance Preferences window (again, make sure you have uninstalled any previous version first). You can also install the emerald theme via the Emerald Theme Manager.

Customization :

If you prefer the old tabs, edit the gtkrc file (found inside ~/.themes/Atolm/gtk-2.0/ or /usr/share/themes/Atolm/gtk-2.0/ if you have installed via ppa) and replace the line :
include "Styles/tabs1.rc"
with this:
include "Styles/tabs.rc"

If you don't use Nautilus Elementary, edit the gtkrc and make this line:
include "Apps/nautilus-elementary.rc"
look like this:
#include "Apps/nautilus-elementary.rc"

OpenOffice and most other Gtk apps now have a different base and text color than the rest of the theme. This is unavoidable if you want to have a usable OpenOffice. If you want to have a unified look, you can make all Gtk apps follow the same settings by setting the Input Boxes background color to 5C5C5C and the Input Boxes text color to ECECEC.

Thanks :

I would like to thank my partner in crime, MonkeyMagico, JurialMunkey for his valuable feedback and advice, and all of you that keep supporting my work

 It's ok

But this thing looks almost exactly like monkeymagico's Cold Port and Cold v2 which are way cooler IMO. I saw you mentioned his help etc on deviantART so did you do this from scratch or is it truly just a mod of those?

That's only natural, Ceebeebg is MonkeyMagico, so the initial design for this theme was done by the same man that created the Cold gtk theme. The code and pixmaps are made from scratch though.

Hello Friend,

I'm glad to receive an awesome new year surprise in the form of Atolm. Its just a brilliant Elegant Gnome replacement.

With this release, I didn't have found any bugs so far, so I would like you to consider small but interesting things about Atolm that are very strong features to make it a killer theme.

- Speed, it is a good performer than Orta :-( but still my new dark favourite.

- Slider and Tabs, the design of slider is awesome and perfect for touch-screen devices while tabs are yet again unconventional and good looking, similar to Orta's initial tab style.

-Optimizing AwOken icon set in NotifyOSD msgs and other areas where most themes fail to do that.

-Perfect Text color in apps like Evolution and Liferea, etc where its painful to read in themes like Elegant Gnome.

--------------

Here are the improvements that I'd draw your attention to for the next release.

-Selection Color in Gradiant would be a great beatification, similar to Dichotomy Gtk theme.

-Subtle round egde of buttons and window frames as another variant of theme.

Hope this helps........
Thanks....... :-)

Thanks for your kind words and recommendations :). Unfortunately, i have one more update for Atolm ( xfwm, emerald support and a ppa) and one for Orta (bug fixes) and then i will be otherwise occupied till the end of February at least.

I agree; this is an awesome theme. I have found one notable bug so far, though, with the Liferea application: can't read the titles or blockquotes of a selected article.

Can you please provide me with a screenshot (and a url of the article in question if it's possible)?

Here's a screenshot. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10532641/Screenshot.png

I highlighted a portion of it so you can see that there is text there.

Here's a link to the article featured on my screenshot.
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/01/bodhi-linux-reaches-beta-014-gets-new.html

Of course, it's not limited to only this article. As far as I can tell it's whenever there is a blockquote.

Forgot; just to clarify also in that screenshot it shows that there is no title where there usually is a title. I highlighted that for you in this screenshot here. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10532641/Screenshot-1.png

 color issues

 by linux-void on: Jan 4 2011

thanks for good theme but I have just 2 questions...

have you ever launched pidgin on this theme? (messaging window - you can't see nick name (above the actual chat window, near the status bubble))
second question: have you launched opera? especially hovering a link shows a "blank" status bar because text has the same color as status bar background.
bonus: logging in on deviant shows in kinda popup login form with unreadable login name and password (cuz it's light) on chromium color of formfields is dark.

p.s. changing inputbox colors.. fixes pidgin's chat-window but makes contacts list partly unreadable.
on orta there is absolutely nothing to blame about.. except too light window borders (decorators), if you just made orta with this borders by default it would be perfect.

Yes, i have launched pidgin but i missed the contact name problem, i will fix it in the next release.

As for opera, the statusbar link text is actually white in Opera 11 :
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/SkiesOfAzel/Screenshot.png. The rest of the opera problems are unfixable if you want a working OpenOffice. Opera and OpenOffice are not gtk apps and both are using the same toplevel window and widget paths to emulated gtk. That means that if i try to fix OpenOffice, the same settings will also apply to Opera and i can do nothing about it. If they decide to actually care about gtk emulation and replace the generic GtkWindow they use with something else (like Mozilla did with MozillaGtkWidget), i could actually fix those problems with seperate per application settings, but as long as they don't, i am out of options.

 Chrome/ium Scrollbars

I know you made custom scrollbars for Chrome/ium for your other theme. Do you have any plans to do the same for this one?
