It has come to my attention that some older versions of the pixmap engine (like the one found in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) have a bug that causes severe visual glitches when transparency is used in menubars. If your menubars and panel indicators are messed up, go to the Fixes page of the Orta Settings Manager and check the option "Select this if your menus and panel have visual glitches". This will also remove transparency from the Gnome Menu Bar applet, so if you use this applet with the flat panel option to make the panel transparent, you are out of luck.

INSTALLATION :

Ubuntu PPA :

Please make absolutely sure you have removed any previous instances of the theme before installing via ppa.

To add the ppa and install the theme and the settings manager, type this on a terminal :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nikount/orta-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install orta-theme

To install the emerald decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-emerald-decorators

To install the Xfwm4 decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-xfwm4-decorators

You can find the Orta Settings Manager under the Preferences category of your Main Menu.

Manual Installation :

Extract the extractme.tar.gz archive that you find inside the zip, to a folder of your choosing. Inside, you will find the theme (Orta.tar.gz) and additional decorators (Orta-Squared.tar.gz and Orta-Old.tar.gz) along with some folders. First, right click on OrtaSettingsManager.py and make sure that the "Allow executing file as program" option is checked. Run it and press the uninstall button to remove any old versions of Orta from your system. You can install the theme and decorators manually by dragging and dropping them to the Gnome Appearance Preferences window, or you can use the installer on the Orta Settings Manager (recommended if you want to install for all users including root). Now you can go through the various tabs of the Settings Manager and setup the theme according to your preferences. When you are done click the save button. Make sure you select another theme on the Appearance Preferences dialog that pops up, and then go back to Orta in order to apply your changes.

Leave the orta folder alone, it includes the Orta Settings Manager files .

Inside the Chromium folder, you will find a Chromium theme and different sizes of scrollbars to install.

Inside the Awn folder you will find an Avant Window Navigator lucido style. There are also 5 emerald themes inside the emerald folder.

LICENCE :

The pixmaps are licensed under the Creative Commons non commercial share alike license, and the code under GPL v3. I've also included the original xcf sources of the pixmaps so that anyone can easily modify the theme to his/hers preferences.

Hi again! I just tried the 0.97 version but it seems to have lots of bugs with the configuration tool :S
This is my configuration:

Tabs: light
Nautilus: elementary without menubar
Menu: light colored, squared menu item highlight
Panel: dark

The rest of my config is the default, and this is how it looks after clicking Save:

I've tried installing and uninstalling, as root and as a 'normal' user a BUNCH of times (really) without success; when it almost works it has the dark panel, dark menus (which I didn't choose) and default rounded tabs, which I don't like. I'm using that meanwhile.

I checked it on my end and it seems to be working fine. It might be a problem with the installation part of the settings manager though. Uninstall through the Settings Manager. Make sure that the folders /usr/share/themes/Orta and ~/.themes/Orta don't exist. Then install manually by dragging and dropping the Orta.tar.gz file on the Appearance Preferences window. Give it a try and tell me what happened.

I made sure and deleted Orta from any theme folder, then installed the theme normally and it worked as before, dark panel, dark menu, everything else default. But when I try to edit the theme with the OrtaSettingsManager, it breaks like I showed you before. Is there a way to manually edit the settings? (something like replacing folders, I dunno)

Yes, the settings.rc file inside the gtk-2.0 folder is what holds the settings, please open it and paste the contents here. Also if you have the widget factory, run it and tell me the output on the gnome-terminal.

Another idea is to check file permissions, Do
sudo chmod -R 755 ~/.themes/Orta

Looks great! I couldn't get the AWN theme to work though, AWN claims the file isn't a valid theme file. What version of AWN are you running? Thanks!

The awn theme isn't made by me as i've stated in the description. I think it's made for version 0.4.1, which you can get by adding the awn testing team ppa to your system (ppa:awn-testing/ppa).

Hey, great theme, mate, though I have one problem. I see artifacts, mix of colors, etc. instead of menubar in every app with your theme. Is there a way to fix that? Cheers.

The fix works, i've tested it, other users have tested it too. With that said, allot of other things could have gone wrong.

Did you save your settings with the Settings Manager before reapplying Orta? Does, changing other aspects of the theme, like tabs or panels, work?

If you have installed for all users, please do (on a terminal)
gedit /usr/share/themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/settings.rc
and paste the contents of the file here.
Likewise, if you performed a normal installation do
gedit ~/.themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/settings.rc
and paste the file contents here.

Nautilus elementary just displays a solid color background. Updated to last version on ppa and I'm in maverick.

Lol, the ppa doesn't work yet, i am currently rewriting the theme to make the code as modular as it can be (this will improve speed), so there is nothing to upload yet. How do you guys finds those things so fast anyway :P

Solved it by removing the path on the 'include' line in the nautilus-elementary-no-menubar.rc, it was pointing to a wrong subdirectory.

After that, I had to remove the menubar in nautilus-elementary myself by right click, and the gradient showed up.

BTW, great theme. Best I've seen so far.

Perhaps add some transparent part to emerald decoration.

These are not bugs. You can use nautilus elementary with, or without a menubar (there is an option to hide it when you right click on the nautilus toolbar). If your menubar is visible, you should select the Nautilus elementary Option on the Settings Manager, if you have set the menubar to hidden, then you should use the option use the nautilus Elementary without a menubar option ;). This way nautilus will always be properly skinned.
