Description:

VERSION 1.4.1
It has come to my attention that some older versions of the pixmap engine (like the one found in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) have a bug that causes severe visual glitches when transparency is used in menubars. If your menubars and panel indicators are messed up, go to the Fixes page of the Orta Settings Manager and check the option "Select this if your menus and panel have visual glitches". This will also remove transparency from the Gnome Menu Bar applet, so if you use this applet with the flat panel option to make the panel transparent, you are out of luck.

INSTALLATION :

Ubuntu PPA :

Please make absolutely sure you have removed any previous instances of the theme before installing via ppa.

To add the ppa and install the theme and the settings manager, type this on a terminal :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nikount/orta-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install orta-theme

To install the emerald decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-emerald-decorators

To install the Xfwm4 decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-xfwm4-decorators

You can find the Orta Settings Manager under the Preferences category of your Main Menu.

Manual Installation :

Extract the extractme.tar.gz archive that you find inside the zip, to a folder of your choosing. Inside, you will find the theme (Orta.tar.gz) and additional decorators (Orta-Squared.tar.gz and Orta-Old.tar.gz) along with some folders. First, right click on OrtaSettingsManager.py and make sure that the "Allow executing file as program" option is checked. Run it and press the uninstall button to remove any old versions of Orta from your system. You can install the theme and decorators manually by dragging and dropping them to the Gnome Appearance Preferences window, or you can use the installer on the Orta Settings Manager (recommended if you want to install for all users including root). Now you can go through the various tabs of the Settings Manager and setup the theme according to your preferences. When you are done click the save button. Make sure you select another theme on the Appearance Preferences dialog that pops up, and then go back to Orta in order to apply your changes.

Leave the orta folder alone, it includes the Orta Settings Manager files .

Inside the Chromium folder, you will find a Chromium theme and different sizes of scrollbars to install.

Inside the Awn folder you will find an Avant Window Navigator lucido style. There are also 5 emerald themes inside the emerald folder.

LICENCE :

The pixmaps are licensed under the Creative Commons non commercial share alike license, and the code under GPL v3. I've also included the original xcf sources of the pixmaps so that anyone can easily modify the theme to his/hers preferences.

Changelog:

Fixes:

- Synaptic fix for gtk2-engines-pixbuf version 2.20 and older.

- Main menu icon size reverted to 22.

 Compliments

Fantastic theme pack! From the screenshots i thought it would be pretty heavy on resources, but its definitely not! Congrats. :)

Also, could you please tell me what media player you are using in the 3rd screenshot?

Well, it certainly isn't lightweight, every pixmpap is transparent in order to allow the user to tweak the colors through Gnome's Appearance Preferences dialog.

As for the player, it's a fork of rhythmbox by the Elementary Team called rhythm-e. You can get it from launchpad.

I am not very versed in gtk theme design, but i want to get a square selected menu item (like the option available in tabs). Would replacing the Menu/menuitem.png with image of same resolution work? Which one should i use Tabs/htab.png or Tabs/vtab.png?

 Theme issues

Hi. I really like this theme. However, there are a couple of issues on my system. You can see the images from this link:

Peace be with you.

I guess I should explain them!

The first one is that the buttons don't line up properly.

The second one is that the menu 'button' is not centered. That is, there is a little space to the left of the button but the right side is butted up against the word.

Peace be with you.

I am aware of both problems. The first is caused by your titlebar font size. If it's too big, metacity increases both horizontal and vertical padding, causing this glitch. I am looking for ways to avoid this behavior as we speak.

The second problems is caused by the fact that Chromium doesn't respect the button margins enforced by the theme. So, it starts drawing the button overlay from where the button shadow begins and ends where the button shadow ends. If this bothers you, i could try making some other buttons with little to no shadows for use with chromium.

Thanks for the quick reply! The Chrome button thing is not an issue for me, but it may be to others. The title bar font is an issue so I hope you get that fixed.

Thanks again for your work. I appreciate it.

Peace be with you.

The theme is installed, you just have to activate it. Open gnome-appearance-properties and select it.

What can i say, i am a sneaky bastard ;). As for the tabs, the idea wasn't mine, i borrowed it from Bespin, so it's Bespin's creator that has fueled your jealousy :P.

 Orta is not displaying right

I have the newest iteration of Orta installed but it does not display properly when running apps as a normal user but if I run an app with sudo it displays properly. I would imagine its a permission issue but I'm not sure which file might be the problem.

You don't have the latest version, you have version 0.75. The problem was that all files were directly thrown into a zip archive which has the bad habbit of stripping file permissions. The next version 0.76 has the files in a tar.gr you can find inside the zip archive in order to prevent this. You can use chown to set the file access or download the current version.

Just downloaded the newest from deviant art. The archive is still labeled 0.75 and I get the same results as before. I removed all old copies of Orta before redownloading.

open up a terminal and type :
sudo chown -R 755 /usr/share/themes/Orta
Sorry for the inconvenience. I will update today or tomorrow with some changes that will eliminate such problems.
