Description:

VERSION 1.4.1
It has come to my attention that some older versions of the pixmap engine (like the one found in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) have a bug that causes severe visual glitches when transparency is used in menubars. If your menubars and panel indicators are messed up, go to the Fixes page of the Orta Settings Manager and check the option "Select this if your menus and panel have visual glitches". This will also remove transparency from the Gnome Menu Bar applet, so if you use this applet with the flat panel option to make the panel transparent, you are out of luck.

INSTALLATION :

Ubuntu PPA :

Please make absolutely sure you have removed any previous instances of the theme before installing via ppa.

To add the ppa and install the theme and the settings manager, type this on a terminal :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nikount/orta-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install orta-theme

To install the emerald decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-emerald-decorators

To install the Xfwm4 decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-xfwm4-decorators

You can find the Orta Settings Manager under the Preferences category of your Main Menu.

Manual Installation :

Extract the extractme.tar.gz archive that you find inside the zip, to a folder of your choosing. Inside, you will find the theme (Orta.tar.gz) and additional decorators (Orta-Squared.tar.gz and Orta-Old.tar.gz) along with some folders. First, right click on OrtaSettingsManager.py and make sure that the "Allow executing file as program" option is checked. Run it and press the uninstall button to remove any old versions of Orta from your system. You can install the theme and decorators manually by dragging and dropping them to the Gnome Appearance Preferences window, or you can use the installer on the Orta Settings Manager (recommended if you want to install for all users including root). Now you can go through the various tabs of the Settings Manager and setup the theme according to your preferences. When you are done click the save button. Make sure you select another theme on the Appearance Preferences dialog that pops up, and then go back to Orta in order to apply your changes.

Leave the orta folder alone, it includes the Orta Settings Manager files .

Inside the Chromium folder, you will find a Chromium theme and different sizes of scrollbars to install.

Inside the Awn folder you will find an Avant Window Navigator lucido style. There are also 5 emerald themes inside the emerald folder.

LICENCE :

The pixmaps are licensed under the Creative Commons non commercial share alike license, and the code under GPL v3. I've also included the original xcf sources of the pixmaps so that anyone can easily modify the theme to his/hers preferences.

Changelog:

Fixes:

- Synaptic fix for gtk2-engines-pixbuf version 2.20 and older.

- Main menu icon size reverted to 22.

 Netbook

 by ed0 on: Dec 12 2010

First of all :
Thanks for your fantastic work !

And my question :
Is there a way to reduce the size of the gnome-menu to fit it well with a netbook screen..??
I tried to modify the gtkrc with adding the gtk-icon-size's option "panel-menu=16,16" , and it didn't succeed.
I think it's all about the "x-thickness, or y-thickness" thing, but i'm not as good as my wishes.... :D
Anyway, thanks for your (future) help and for your work.
And sorry if i did some mistakes, English is not my first language

Great work, but I found small bug in non gtk application (for example: QTCreator). When I move cursor over any widget the tooltip text is unreadable (white on very bright yellow backround). Sorry for my english.

As you can see here, the tooltips work as they should :

I have to conclude that something other than the theme is causing the problem.

 minor bug with clock

Hi,
First let me say that Orta is a very beautiful theme and I really enjoy using it.
There is one niggling little flaw though that I would really like to see addressed.
The standard clock applet text seems to be a couple of pixels off center (high).
I have tried a wide variety of fonts and panel sizes and it's consistent. If it wasn't for that, it would be perfect.
Thanks for an excellent theme!

I get something similar with the preview thumbnail when using Sid but the theme itself works fine.(the minor bug posted above is unrelated)
Everything is totally fine with Arch which uses a newer gtk(2.22) and pixmap engine.
I think it has something to do with the pixmap version and if you get glitches actually using the theme, there is a workaround on the last tab of the theme's setup dialog.

Yep, there is an option in the fixes page that mostly takes care of this bug (it's indeed caused by pixmap engine version 2.20).

Unfortunately option in fixes doesn't work. This screenshot was taken after I activate fourth square in Orta Settings Manager (and reload theme).

The option works just fine, it won't fix the theme preview glitch but it will fix the menubars. You probably forgot to save your settings before reloading the theme or you have 2 instanses of the theme installed at the same time.

If you have installed via ppa make absolutely certain that there is no folder named Orta inside ~/.themes .

If you have installed manually, select the fourth option on the Fixes page, press save, change the theme to something different and then back to Orta.

If the problem persists after you have restarted your session please find the settings.rc file inside ~/.themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/ (or /usr/share/themes/Orta/gtk-2.0/ depending on where you installed the theme) and paste its contents here.
