 Fonts issue with Macbuntu10.10

 by a8j8i8t8 on: Oct 12 2010

Score 50%

Hi,
I freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 (didn't upgrade) on my laptop.
And then I installed Macbuntu 10.10.
I think fonts are not getting installed properly.
I see same "Ubuntu" font in my font settings.
Am I missing something?

Cheers,
Ajit

Nothing missed, it should work. Can you choose the font manually? If not, then the script failed to install.
You must have:
.fonts.conf file in home directory
/mac folder in /usr/share/fonts/ directory

if not please install manually, Lucida Grande fonts are located in the macbuntu package /fonts/latin or /fonts/gbk

A minor suggestion.. I don't like the force quit icon.. it looks like I have an "Error" on my computer looking at it from the top panel. It would be great when its not clicked/moused over it that it be grey colored tones.. and when the icon is clicked/moused over it that it turns to the actual red color. If this is possible that would be great ;)

Screenshot Desktop(looking like Error): http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/4113/screenshotgi.jpg

Example of idea: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/7082/forcequitsuggestion.jpg

Everything of the Theme is working perfectly on my computer, looks & sounds great(I honestly love your theme) =)

There is problem with the menu in Ubuntu! the menus in Adobe PDF Reader are blank, and the menu items in nautilus repeat many times! My system is Ubuntu 10.10. It's a great work ,and I like it very much, but I want to fix this problem. Thanks!

I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and the theme is working fine for me

By any chance did you reboot your computer 1 or 2 times after running the theme for the 1st time.. because I had the issue of repeated things on menu(nautilus, and other apps menu), but after rebooting it got fixed

no clue of it helps on your side

Now I have no clue about the Adobe PDF Viewer thing, since I don't have that - I use the regular Ubuntu PDF viewer it has by default and I don't see any issues in its menu.

Yes, I have rebooted my PC for several times. But it didn't work. And I found another two problems: 1. The progress-bar is separated by a white line; 2. An App ( foxit reader, maybe some other APP does) opens an website, whenever I open documents. I guess that the website is the ads in the software, and now it always opens the ads without clicking it. Although those are little bugs, but it's not comfortable. Do you have any methods to solve it? Thanks.

The gtk theme, I gotta fix it.
Progress bar looked good in 10.04, but in Maverick wrapping terribly.

Re. 2. I do not understand what you mean. Firefox opens java plugin without question, or something like that? Have you new installed Ubuntu or it was an upgrade? Certainly it has nothing to do with Macbuntu.

I meant that the software was foxit pdf reader not firefox web browser. When I open pdf document with foxit, it will open the web site of ads. As before, it just showed the ads in the corner of the software with a picture. But now the ads disappears in foxit, instead of being opened in web browser without clicking the ads.
Thanks for your answering!

 Cannot uninstall

by bejolino on: Oct 13 2010

I installed the last Macbuntu version on Ubuntu Maverick 32bit just to show it to a friend, and now when I run ./uninstall it says

Checking currently installed version of Macbuntu-10.10...
Failed. The script is not able to determine what version is currently installed
Exiting...

I want my Gnome back....

I have tried also ./uninstall force and it was the same

Is there eventually a manual way to uninstall?

Looks like you did not install properly. To uninstall, you need known what version you installed, then make folder ".macbuntu" in your home directory, there create a file named "current" (case sensitive) with the following content: "10.10-2.3" for Macbuntu 10.10 version 2.3.

At the end run ./uninstall.sh from the package you have downloaded.

Command for 10.10-2.3:
mkdir ~/.macbuntu/
echo 10.10-2.3 > ~/.macbuntu/current

Dude I just tested your uninstall script(I wanted to see if it was safe, then I was going to re-install it again).... Yes I only ran the one from the downloaded folder... since I had the .macbuntu & current file inside of it - on my home directory.

Well.. that thing uninstalled literally every application I have manually installed on my 10.10

That I can notice it removed my latest versions of: VLC, VirtualBox(It also deleted my Virtual machines I had in them, for some reason .virtualbox only has settings files in it now), Docky and a couple of others I can't remember the names. Luckily it didn't remove my wine which i have over 16 applications there and i never backed up the settings installings of winetricks of each - I would kill you there if it did lol :P.

Is there something wrong in your uninstall script, or maybe installing the theme that its making a bad backup of what i had originally installed on 10.10?

I have rebooted & also noticed the .macbuntu folder is still left inside the home directory... not sure if that is supposed to be like that.

Eitherway I still have all the deb packages of those applications i installed manually, but it seems odd that it uninstalled all of them.

LOL. I have no clue what you did. The script does not have the power to uninstall this stuff :)

You have to read before you something uninstall.

This is what the script do:
sudo apt-get autoremove docky ubuntu-tweak appmenu-gtk libqtgui4 indicator-applet-appmenu indicator-appmenu

Everything has been installed by the script, However, possible that your software depending on the libqtgui4 library. I do not believe that the program does not show an appropriate message. The program did it, displays a message which software will be uninstalled and you have chosen Yes (Y)

What can I say, think about what you do, read before you agree, do not trust anyone! Even to me ;) Have fun :)

lol Well I read the names of apps and so many more files(well since this theme had so many stuff I imagined it was from the theme alone) that were going to be uninstalled... but I was assuming they were icons from Docky(because I had all those apps on my docky)... oh well forget about it(probably something odd on my system)

Anyways I just finished right now re-installing everything eheheh so I'm back where i was & re-installed your theme afterwards lol I'll just forget about testing the uninstalling and keep using it since it is working fine.

I updated the package. Uninstall script is fixed, ie. no longer removes the libqtgui4 library and applications using it.

I know that I caused you this problem, but thanks to you other people will be avoid these problems :)

Sorry

 Scripts updated

by bagley on: Oct 13 2010

Score 38%

There was a two known problems in scripts.

First problem in install.sh:
- Wrongly interpreted a choice of fonts, therefore, instead of gbk was installed the latin font and vice versa.

Second problem in uninstall.sh:
During the uninstall process was selected library, which should not be removed. A moment of inattention could lead to remove the applications associated with the library libqtgui4, this could be: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, skype, virtualbox, vlc

Thx to sendblink23 for a "warning".

Do not trust me implicitly, also I may be wrong :)
