Hey guys,
sincere regards to the author. Tremendous job indeed. Much better than the Mac4Lin project witch I was previously using with ubuntu.

I updated today, and everything seems to be working awesome as it should.

There are few things that I don't like though and I'd be more than happy to see them fixed in the next version

1st the bread crumb or the location bar if you will looks like this
http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/c6b23a971539af13778f7fe0eba710f66g.jpg

whereas in snow leopard looks like this
http://nsa14.casimages.com/img/2010/04/07//100407032838437941.jpg

it's no a huge difference but it kind of spoils the looks.

Also the tabs in the properties or gedit or basicly any other tabbed interface besides the one in nautilus are also kind of bumpy when it comes to consistency with mac

The fix about the animations plugin for 64x didn't work for me. I tried it twice, both time after fresh system start and it still doesn't fire.

Otherwise terrific work if you need anything just let me know, I'd more than happy to help as much as I can. I like the project very much so keep up the good work :)

Nautilus-Elementary is a great idea to bring Mac OS X Finder to Linux, but need some work, especially on the technical side, it is not stable yet.

This is how looks default Finder in Mac OS X

http://www.geekology.co.za/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/mac-osx-finder-full-path-titlebar-2.jpg

but what you showed - Path Finder - is more better

http://www.cocoatech.com/

You're right, the appearance need to work on, but unfortunately I have no experience in the modification of themes on such level. Therefore, in the next version, Nautilus will not be changed. But surely this will be corrected.

The project is open, so everyone can join and help improve it:)

That thing with animations plugin for Compiz x64 it wonder me. It was tested on 2 Ubuntu x64 machines and on the Virtual Box, everything worked properly.

There is an alternative, modify the plug on the client machine

Are the other Compiz effects work properly? Any?
What is your Ubuntu (10.04 or 10.10) and arch (32 or 64) version?

Send me "uname -a" and "ps ax | grep -i compiz" result.

Please check if the visual effects are enabled in System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual effects.

yeah, my ubuntu is 10.04, and "uname -a"shows
"Linux fox-laptop 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux"

"1498 ? S 0:18 compiz
3094 pts/1 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto -i compiz"
(actually i have no idea what this stuff means...)

and i found that the choosing of backend do matters, if i choose Gconf, the animation totally doesn't work. if i choose kde configuration backend, some of the animation works while some don't... and my desktop is gnome

any more info you need ,just let me know...
and forgive my poor english , i'm a Chinese

best regards

Please import this Compiz profile
http://www.losoft.org/blog/download/macbuntu/compiz-profile.tar.gz
and then see if the animations are working correctly. Settings are similar to those which the script sets.

If this does not work that means the compiz plugins have been damaged. You need to reinstall Compiz.

Another question. Do you have any problem with the fonts, because I'm not sure if the supplied font is correct in China.

thank you so much , now it works perfect! I imported you profile and it solved all problems...

There is some problems with the font in Chinese, as I found, the colon doesn't display correct, and the Chinese characters looks wired...
someone has found a solution for this problem:
cd to "~/.themes/Macbuntu-10.04/gtk-2.0" and find all the files named with "rc", find "font_name"and replace its value with some other font name which works well before using this themepack .

I think you can add this procedure to your script and more Chinese will spare many troubles to do this by themselves

Exactly, it has already been changed and will be excluded in the new versions.
For this reason, was not possible to completely change the font to another.

Thanks for the info.

I can not test everything myself. I was tested Chinese language on the VirtualBox and seemed to be all right. Apparently supplied fonts are not universal.

 Well done!!!

Recently came across Macbuntu and wanted to give it a try and I have to agree with most that this is very well done.
However there is room for further improvements and will look forward to future versions.
Suggestions:
* Integration of Firefox, OOo and some other applications with the Global Menu
* More themes to choose from including Mac sound themes

Windows 7 Transformation Pack does a very good job in terms of providing easy installation and un-installation for reference.

Well done!!!

Mac sound themes will be delivered in v2.3, along with the revised icons.

Integration of Firefox and OOo with the Global Menu, there will be a problem, but it's possible that the Application Menu will deal better with this in the future.

Windows 7 Transformation Pack? Have not heard yet, but I will check what we can steal :)

thx

Strange, works for me :)

You can do some screenshots?
This may be this error when you installed Macbuntu 2.3Alpha

http://sourceforge.net/projects/macbuntu/forums/forum/1205031/topic/3811447?message=8682181

To fix this bug manually please gedit macbuntu theme rc file: nautilus-tweaks.rc and remove nautilus-mode-button section
and the line
widget "*GtkModeButton*" style "nautilus-mode-button"

Have you recently upgraded the system?

"Global Menu is the globally-shared menu bar of all applications launched in your desktop session."

Do you dont see a GlobalMenu applet on the topbar? Do you have a topbar enabled?

If you want to disable GlobalMenu please remove the applet from the topbar.
If you want to enable local menubar please open GlobalMenu preferences and check on "Show local menu in window"

Let me know.

Macbuntu script is safe, but in the fact it runs with root privileges and this is already becoming a dangerous.

Macbuntu does not contain any malicious code, as it guarantees. I guarantee the safe code only if the application comes from this address

https://sourceforge.net/projects/macbuntu/

I do not put this package in any other place outside the https://sourceforge.net/projects/macbuntu/files/

Remember, check whether a link leads to this page. Otherwise, stop downloading.

This is your computer and take care of him, never run applications with root privileges if you do not trust the software or you are unsure about the origin of this software.

It is very possible that soon I will prepare a PPA for Macbuntu, until then keep checking the origin of the package.

Thank you for your attention, have fun :)

 Great work! But...

 by krebsi83 on: Oct 10 2010

Hello!

I've tried Macbuntu alpha for Ubuntu 10.10 on the final-release of Ubuntu 10.10

You have to change the version-check-var in the install.sh from

#UBUVER="10.10"
UBUVER="Maverick"
UBUNTU="Ubuntu $UBUVER"

to

UBUVER="10.10"
#UBUVER="Maverick"
UBUNTU="Ubuntu $UBUVER"

then the install.sh works without the option "force". :-)

It seems, that you have a little error in the "nautilus-tweaks.rc"

here is my terminal-output (for example, I just want open nautilus):

krebsi83@notebook:~$ nautilus
home/username/.themes/Macbuntu/gtk-2.0/nautilus-tweaks.rc:72: error: unexpected keyword `engine', expected string constant

I've try to fix the error, but I have no luck.

Can you try to fix it?

But else: GREAT WORK!!!!

sorry for my bad English ;-)

Bug in nautilus-tweaks.rc has been corrected.

I'm testing the final version of 2.3. It should be available soon.

Thanks to everyone for help.
