Description:

The Finery theme is my implementation of fibermarupoks mockup (http://fibermarupok.deviantart.com/art/Ubuntu-Light-Re-Imagined-156152617) that he created shortly after the new Ubuntu Light Themes were revealed. It also includes a metacity theme.

If you want to read the whole "story" of what I think about the Radiance theme and how I got to implement this mockup, see here: http://immanuel-peratoner.de/index.php?target=blog&post_id=finery-an-ubuntu-light-theme-as-i-would-have-wis

I've also created a git repository on github: http://github.com/iperatoner/finery-themes

Installation:
1. Extract the archive
2. Go into the folder "FineryThemes"
3. Install the themes
3.1. ...via gnome-appearance-properties
3.2. ...by extracting the archives and copying the two folders (Finery, FineryDark) to /usr/share/themes

Using the panel background:
If you want to use the panel background, you have to manually set it for each panel. You can find the file after installing the theme either in `~/.themes/Finery/gtk-2.0/Panels` or in `/usr/share/themes/Finery/gtk-2.0/Panels` (if you installed the theme system-wide).

For the dark variant I recommend the default Ambiance panel background in `/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0`

Dark variant:
The dark variant is still in testing, please report any bugs/issues with it at github: http://github.com/iperatoner/finery-themes

PPA now available!
Thanks to Shnatsel we now have a FinyeryThemes PPA: http://launchpad.net/~finery-developers/+archive/ppa

Changelog:

0.1.4:
* Fixed ugly bottom corners of window decoration
* Reduced progress bar height
* Increased button's xthickness to 4
* Fixed sound applet slider (thanks suraia!)
* Fixed Gtk Warning (thanks suraia!)
* Fixed banshee popup (thanks suraia!)
* Fixed wrong background color in "menu scroll buttons", e.g. in "System > Preferences"-menu if your screen size is small (thanks aleth!)
* Fixed wrong "auth-expander-item" mouseover background (thanks aleth!)
* Polished buttons
* Polished seperator-menu-items
* Well, perhaps I changed some more stuff; it was just a too long period ;D

0.1.3:
* Included Jonian Guveli's reworked metacity buttons (thanks!)
* Fixed combobox text color issue in dark theme
* Improved gradient on GtkNotebook tabs
* Improved focus color of GtkNotebook tabs and GtkButton

0.1.2.1:
* Including dark variant of the theme (testing)

0.1.2:
* Radiobuttons, checkbuttons and sliders are now rendered using the Equinox engine
* Updated window control buttons (since I found the svg sources of the original buttons :) )
- also includes an "unmaximize" button
- better close-mouseover/pressed buttons
* Fixed weird panel applet background bug

0.1.1:
* Removed "light padding" from nautilus view widget's thin dark border
* Removed thin dark (and ugly;) border from nautilus sidepane
* Softer selected menu items
* More consistent use of color
- using color of selected menu items now in selected treeview items, too
* Changed combobox style to a more simple one
* Panel background is now plain color by default, because of some annoying GTK/Gnome Bugs when setting a pixmap within the gtkrc (not resizing the image, no transparency). Feel free to manually set the panel background; it is in Finery/gtk-2.0/Panel/bg_panel_26.png
* Improved Panel menus
- Increased width of menus in the panel (to better fit the mockup)
- little color changes
* Improved panel window list buttons
- roundness of 2
- better shades
* Decreased height of notebook tabs

0.1:
* Initial release

 WONDERFUL THEMES!

 by Algimene on: Jun 13 2010

Your theme is elegant, and great refined! Canonical should pick u up! =D

I have some tip, sorry if they have been already proposed:

- ppa & deb packages (with default gradient panel-bg. I have some bugs with banshee app indicator when i select BG in panel options)

- default Equinox engine slider in sound applet

- include Finery Themes Metacity Reworked (i saw u already requested for it =)

- try and set aurulent sans as default font if u like it. They looks GREAT! http://www.dafont.com/aurulent-sans.font

- propose to ubuntu art team and art wiki as default 10.10 theme because it's worth it! ;)

Keep up the great work! =D

i forgot one thing:

- use Equinox default button focus. The murrine focus looks "incomplete". Equinox one is more elegant.

Thank you :)

-> I would also appreciate a ppa/debs, but actually I don't have the time to read up on deb-packaging and ppa stuff

-> I'm already using the Equinox slider :)

-> Now included in 0.1.3 :)

-> afaik it's not possible to include fonts into GTK/Metacity themes

-> I've already posted it at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Maverick :)

-> Sadly it is not possible to only use the equinox focused button style on buttons. But I am already trying to make the best out of what's possible with Murrine.

- as you can see here (http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/5359/schermatar.png) the sound apple is not using equinox slider. See also the banshee applet icon cut :)

- these is equinox button focus (http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/2833/schermata1z.png). Why can't u use it? Your theme is not based on Equinox?CYII

-> :-O oddly now I also have the ugly slider in the sound applet. Either I have broken something up or there've been changes to the Equinox engine

-> Nope, my theme is mostly based on murrine. It is not possible to mix those two engines together. That means I can't use murrine buttons + equinox button focus

I had the same problem, but the latest version from git fixed it. Screenshots: http://s45.radikal.ru/i107/1009/51/a02b8f6a340e.png

It IS possible - as far as I remember, I did it some time ago. Don't remember how, though.

Have you tried to change the brown color with the new ambiance-color (from dev branch)? I think is more elegant ....;)
Try it:

Not yet ;) I'm quite happy with the brown color 'cause it's more "warm". But I'll try the new one, though :)

It is getting better with every release. Keep up the good work.

Also it would be nice if you made a finerydark with white menus.

It would be perfect when the panels are like the original (with gradients).

Panel backgrounds in GTK themes make a lot of trouble that's why I removed them. But feel free to manually set the panel background ;)

Please dont forget to show this to the ubuntu artwork-team. Your theme is million times better than the original and the currently testing themes of ubuntu and do you know why? Yours is FINISHED! They shipped ubuntu with a half baked theme. I cant believe they pay their designers.

I just wanted to say that I really like these theme (especially Finery)! Great work! I didn't appreciate it until I started using it on a regular basis. The subtilty with which you have placed 'here and there' is extremely good!

Thank you so much for your work.

Peace be with you.

I have made a slightly modified version of these two beautiful themes - maybe they will be of interest to others as well:

http://github.com/aleth/finery-themes

(A brief description of the changes can be found there.)

Many thanks iperatoner for your excellent work!
