Description:

This theme was an attempt to allow everyone to pick a wide variety of colors and window borders. You can change the sidebar colors to any color you prefer, or if you prefer another window border, you can change the menubar color to make it blend together. This is my first time doing something like this, so there may be a lot of problems - Let me know. Thanks so much to everyone for help, feedback, comments, messages, voting, and fannage(?). Also, negative/critical feedback is just as (and sometimes more) important as any other. I don't know what down votes mean without it! Hope everyone enjoys. Thanks again!

----------------------------------------------------------

How to Use

++ Colors ++

Several Gtk desktops have an Appearance Manager (see below), usually under the System menu, that allow you to customize a themes colors. If not, try this:

1. Open the file /home/yournamehere/.themes/Victory/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
2. Open the file /home/yournamehere/.themes/Victory/gtk-3.0/gtk.css
3. Open the file /home/yournamehere/.themes/Victory/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

Each of these files contain the color settings in the top of the files. The important parts are:

selected_fg_color
selected_bg_color

tooltip_fg_color
tooltip_bg_color

Here's what each one of those changes:

selected_fg_color = Sidebar Text Color
selected_bg_color = Sidebar Background Color

tooltip_fg_color = File Menu Text Color
tooltip_bg_color = File Menu Background Color

Just change the #xxxxxx to a color you like! Save, and log out and back in to see the changes!

++ Options ++

This theme offers options for light panels, light menus, Nautilus elementary, the ability to try old Victory styles, and more.

At the bottom of the gtkrc or gtk.css file (mentioned in Steps 1 and 2 of the color section), you will find a section called Options. Comment or Uncomment lines (add or remove a # at the beginning of the line or the /* at the beginning and */ at the end) to try different options. After making changes, save the file. You will have to change to another theme for a moment. Go back to the Victory theme, and your changes should appear.

++ Installing ++

To install, extract the downloaded tar.gz. Put the folders (Victory, Victory for Top Panels) in your themes directory. Then open your desktops Appearance Manager to select the theme.

Log out and back in to make sure all changes take effect (especially in Gnome 3)

If you would like root apps (Synaptic/Package Manager/GParted) to use your theme, try the following. Step 2 may give an error that there was no such folder. If so, ignore it and move on to Step 4.

1.) Open terminal and type:
2.) sudo mv /root/.themes /root/.themesbackup
3.) Hit enter, then type:
4.) sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root
5.) Hit enter

2012.03.16b - Repackaged and reuploaded. Was having a problem with compression, causing the files for Cinnamon, Gnome-Shell, and a lot of other updates not to work. If you had any problems using this update, delete it, try it again, and let me know if anyone else is still having problems. Sorry!

2012.03.16 | c
Updated again on 2012-05-13.
This theme was created using Gtk3.2. They made some theme changes in Gtk3.4, so it doesn't look as intended. This update is a temporary fix for the biggest problem in Gtk3.4 - white text. Hopefully I can update the theme in the next month or so to address the rest of the problems.

Anyway, let me know what's good or bad, or if any apps aren't theming right or anything. Thanks again everyone... I really appreciate all the feedback and comments!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the compliment! I'd never done a theme before... so maybe the innovative code was just accidental or born from ignorance! Haha. It was/is a fun learning experience, though.

Oh yeah... that's something I meant to fix the last couple times and forgot all about! Good catch.

Under:
Quote:
style "combobox" = "button"

you'll see
Quote:
engine "murrine"

add these lines under where it says comboboxstyle:
Quote:
glow_shade = 1.0
glowstyle = 2

The glow behind the buttons is intentional - it happens when it's a light theme too, but it's less noticable. If you want to change it find:
Quote:
style "toolbarbutton-prelight"

and under engine "murrine" change the glow_shade from 20.0 to 2.0 or whatever you want.

Hope this helps. Thanks!

I'm not sure why you have that black square... that has never happened to me, sorry.

For the arrows on the path bar... I don't remember exactly what I did, but everything involved with the path bars should be found under:

The close button, when placed on the left is too close to the edge. Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/CmGde.png

Ok, I updated it. I had some problems while working on the borders with the spacing when the buttons were aligned left, but it should be better now. Let me know. And thanks for the screenshot.

Also, thanks for adding this theme to your Theme Pack. I read about the pack when you posted it, and really like all the other themes and icon sets you put in there, so it's really cool of you to have put this one in there too! Thanks!

Usually when ones tries to make something that looks distinct and unique, simplicity goes out of the window. You've managed to produce something that is clean, customizable, good looking, distinct and yet simple, how cool is that ?

 Changing panel menu bar colour

 by Injen on: Apr 17 2011

Hi,

First of all i would like to congratulate you on this great piece of work, thanks for sharing it :)

I have 1 question for you though, is there any way to change the panel menu bar colour? I have changed the colour of my panel bar but when i click on it (on system, for instance) i get the dark grey menu bar. I've tried tweakin the colour values in the source code without any luck (i've been able to modify just about everything except that :p). I've been succesful changin its colour under different themes but not on yours. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks and good work!

Thanks for the compliments, and glad you like it!

By default, the panel is forced to use images. But if you open the gtkrc (/home/yournamehere/.themes/Victory/gtk-2.0/gtkrc) you can change it.

Go down to the bottom of the gtkrc and you'll see a part that says "Options". You can choose from 3 different panel types: Dark with images (default), or a Dark or Light that you can change the colors of. The dark panels have light text, and the light panel has dark text if that matters to you.

Under Options, you will find:
Quote:
1) Dark Panels

include "extras/darkpanel.rc"
#include "extras/darkpanelmurrine.rc"

If you put a # in front of both, it will give you a light panel. If you put a # in front of the darkpanel.rc line, and take the # away from the darkpanelmurrine.rc line, it will give you a dark panel with colors you can change.

Make the changes, save, and then switch from the Victory theme, to another theme, and then back, and you should see the changes.

After this, you can right click on the panel and go to Properties>Background and change the color, there.

Or you can use gnome-color-chooser (available in most repositories), which can change all the colors of the panels - along with tons of other color and icon tweaks for Gnome. It's really nice.

I wasn't sure if I should include the 'image' panel by default... I didn't want to make it too complicated! Sorry for the confusion, and if you need more help or if I didn't explain it well enough, just let me know! Thanks!

Hi again!

Thanks for the quick reply!

Since the comment and uncomment you mentioned in your reply are just as I already have them in my source code (and after my previous unsuccesful attempts at tweaking the colours) I have opted to use gnome-color-chooser and have been able to change the menu colours. For that I thank you and must say my desktop is looking rather sexy :P.

If you could help me with my last problem I would be very grateful. My right clicking menu is the last thing I want to change. Is there any way to change the colour of it? When i tried changing the colours of the panel in my first attempt, I also found out I wasn't able to change the right clicking manu bar either and experimenting with gnome-color-chooser I have had no luck. If you could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Once again thank you for your time and help!

Hi again!

I apologise for the double post. I just wanted to say that I have been able to work out how to unforce the grey menus. It was just a case of commenting the second option "Dark Menus" and i was able to get the colour schemes i was interested in.

Once again thanks for your work. Desktop is looking totally awesome!!
