Description:

You can now download the official Ubuntu Sun over at its Ubuntu Artwork page (link below). I've changed the name of this theme to "Ubuntu Sun X" to avoid confusion. Not very original but it'll do.

---

There are some really nice concepts at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Lucid/UbuntuSun/ of themes that show the sun and sky at different times of the day.

This is my attempt at implementing those mockups. They're not particularly good and could have quite a few bugs and other issues.

Thanks to plippo for the original idea and mockups. And thanks to fhainsen for feedback.

Changelog:

v0.4
Name Change
Fixed panel notification icons

v0.3
Fixed borders and corners so they match
Borders now work better with dark themes
Enriched colours to more closely match the mockups
Tweaked title gradient to be less abrupt (may not have worked)
Buttons now shade on hover rather than displacement
Buttons now visible in inactive windows
Added an "Ubuntu Dark" theme on a trial basis

v0.2
Added Day and Dusk themes
Added divider between maximise and close button
Made maximised windows look better
Adjusted colours to be more acurate

I made some changes to Ubuntu Dawn, I think a dark panel fits better to the theme,I made a screenshot:

Excellent results for a first attempt at recreating the 'Ubuntu Sun' mock-ups; this is now my desktop's theme. Thank you for doing this. In the spirit of helping, here's my feedback: (1) the white edges of the top two corners look less transparent than the white edges of the top and sides of windows, and therefore are oddly brighter; (2) hovering and/or clicking on the minimize/maximize/close buttons result in odd down-up animations; and (3) on the left side of the title-bar, the gradient transition from window background color to selected color is not smooth as in the mockups, though this is IMHO much less of an issue.

Thanks

(1) is a known problem; I need to redo the corners using tints instead of arcs. The bottom has the same problem but it is less obvious because of the less saturated colours.

(2) is intentional. The original mockups don't provide any details with respect to interactivity but I had to do something there. Movement on hover isn't ideal, but it was simple to implement. I'm not a designer so if anyone has any suggestions here, that would be helpful.

(3) I'm not really sure what you mean with this one. I can't see anything wrong with it.

 Upgraded metacity

ingolemo -- I just uploaded a new version of your metacity theme here: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=116529 -- changes include: (1) fixed all edges; (2) replaced the up-down button animations with subtle highlights on hover and click; and (3) added visible buttons to all unfocused windows. I couldn't quickly figure out how to fix the title-bar gradient (which ends a bit too abruptly with some color schemes), so I left it as is. Hope this is helpful.

Hmm, the highlights do work better. Do you mind if I nick them for my next version?

Ubuntu sun is looking very nice. I would suggest to modify the color of scrools, i almost couldn't see them using dusk.

It's too difficult to distinguish top-level tabs which makes its usability rating suck.
