Description:

Windows 7 basic theme lookalike v.2 :)

Hi there,

so here's the sequel of my 1st attempt to achieve a lookalike to the (so hated) Win.7 appearance.

My 1st try was posted in the early days of June :

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Windows+7+basic+theme+lookalike?content=106601&PHPSESSID=9576fd3e02ec62d4f8d951310eabc9da

I tried then to give the panel the transparency there is in the sosoft OS :)
I guess I find a way to do the trick.

So :

- 1 ) firstly, install the gtk theme I have managed to asemble, a few changes have I done :
they'll be more obvious at the end of the "to do" affair, cause without transparency it just looks blahhh.

- 2 ) when you're done with the gtk theme install,
use the panel.bg.png I provided inside the gtk files as a picture for the panel :
Just right click on the panel, then properties, backgroud, background picture,
and select the picture I provided in the main folder of my theme.
The path should probably be : ~/.themes/Win7.Basic.02/gtk-2.0/panel.bg.png.

If I didn't screw the whole thing, you'll be able to see a true transparent panel bar with soft cloudy mouseover effect and a shady dark button for the foreground open window.

I invite you to read my previous post to get the information about the who's who about this work.

Again, I simply put together things I found here and there but 4 sure didn't do the whole thing on my own, I simply don't have the skills.

Thanx, and enjoy.

P.S.
For all you win$ haters, please pass your way and don't polute this thread with your bad manners. The philosophy is about sharing, not hating.
And 15000 + downloaders of my previous version can't be wrong, nop ?

PS.2 : The icon theme is now available here : http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Win.7.basic.icon.theme.trial.01?content=109359
Enjoy

Changelog:

Change the color of the toolbar and its buttons
Change the color of panel buttons
Managed to give the panel bar real transparency

License:
For personal use :)
Not to be used for commercial purpose if it's more comprehensive this way.
Anyway, use it the way you want to, just as long you don't forget pieces are probably the result of other people's work :)

First:
Well done,really nice theme.
I have been wondering how will Linux look with Win 7 skin and now I have the answer(haven't seen first version of this theme).
Second:
I don't get why people hate Vista and Win 7.I have been using vista for a year now and it has been really stable(had some problems with my USB stick, but when I enabled updates everything got perfect).
I have also tried Win 7(p*******y) and it has been working really nice.
Third:
For now on KDE 4 is my favourite through I use Gnome often and waiting for Gnome 3(Topaz) to be released, but still new versions of windows aren't as bad as most people describe them.
;)

Nothing impresses me anymore.
Well that's what I had brought myself to believe. And then, I saw this.

I was gonna say that you are a genius. But I think I'm gonna hold on to that comment till the final version comes out ;)

Well done.

Great work on the gnome-panel here...
you said you have put all together from around, so you can't have any right to release the theme as Personal use only; don't you think?

I like how you went with black rather than duplicating the Windows 7 blue color.

There is one thing that is a bit weird about your screenshot, though: the titlebar text is a bit too high up.
