Description:

Never thought that cursor 'making' is such a time killing monster. These cursors work best with dark/gray themes.

I designed them on a 100dpi display. I will add another version for retina-like displays soon.

I encourage everyone to modify them. Source file is included(with most cursor states in individual layers & previous variants). Hack at will!

// I used Krita 2.7 to create them. Some familiarity with this app is advised.

0.11 alpha / fixed offset problem in the beam cursor.
0.14 alpha / added new cursors, fixed others
0.16 alpha / + new cursors
0.18 alpha / just 2 cursors missing, almost done.
0.181 alpha/ testing new resize cursors. bringing it inline with the initial 'dynamic point'-idea
0.2 alpha / new move cursors + fixes zoom cursors
0.21 alpha / circles!

0.22 alpha / new minimal zoom cursors. (quick solution, I will rework them later. Source file still contains all previous variations, so that everyone can revert my changes)

 Outline?

I know you said this was a 'time killing monster', so I'm a bit reluctant to suggest it, but have you considered adding an alternative with a black outline to this and your neon cursors? Something like oxygen white? The reason I ask is although these look good against darker backgrounds, they get completely lost against a white background. This website for example ;)

I intended to do 2 versions of the same cursor, a black and white...but the white Neon cursors do have a weak shadow so for me it seems to be enough even on a completely white background.

However I see your point.

It's best if you try to do it yourself, the sources directory contains all the necessary files. A Krita 2.7 file (source.kra) has all the layers for constructing your own version. In this particular case you could simply inverse every png and then remake them (make -ik, -ik because a lot of cursors are still missing)

I just though of this... could it be that your brightness settings of the display are at a high level? It might be a good idea to adjust the brightness setting of your monitor, at lower levels it shouldn't flatten the values as much and the cursor should be easily readable.

I have the same "problem" with the visibility on white backgrounds. I played around a lot with brightness as well as contrast and I am afraid it doesn't work for me. Perhaps another possibility would be to offer a second set with a much darker and more visible shadow if you don't like the outline variant? Otherweise, your cursors really look great. Thank you for making them!

Otherwise, as I said before, for darker version there is a 'shortcut' and even though it's simple it is really time consuming - just inverse every png in sources and 'make -ik'.

Well Jenya, this question of yours doesn't make much sense. Surely you meant something like this "Does anyone know if it's possible to animate the xcursor between cursor states when a certain action is triggered?"
