Description:

Darkness is a dark Xfce GTK2 and GTK+ (GTK3) theme primarily designed for XFCE4 on Xubuntu 12.04.

You can get latest version from GitHub https://github.com/vkuzel/Xfce-darkness

GTK2 theme

Based on "Dusk" by James Golden
And it was based on "Dawn" by Olivier Fourdan

GTK3 theme

Based on "Bluebird" by Simon Steinbeiß
And it was based on "Zukitwo" BY lassekongo83

Firefox "theme"

Just changed default form fields color.

Installation

  • Copy theme folder "Xfce-darkness" into ~/.themes/ directory.

  • Make sure you have "murrine" engine installed. If you don`t you can do: `sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine`

  • As a window manager theme you can use "Albatross".

  • Copy content of `firefox' directory to ~/.mozilla/firefox/.default/chrome/ directory.

  • Project status

Sorry guys but this project is no more maintained. I switched from Linux to OSX
recently so I am not working on this project anymore.

    Changelog:

1.6 Fixed background color in Evolution mail client by alexeicolin.

1.5 Removed styles for GTK+ unico engine. So Unico is no more necessary to be installed on system. New Unico engine has some issues on latest Debian builds which was pointed out by dl130.

1.4 Fixed GTK+ buttons and tabs background problem found by Pintergreg.

1.3 Fixed GTK+ selected menu items background color problem found by Kyorakutatsumi.

1.2 Thunar directory selection color fix.

1.1 Added style for firefox default form fields color.

    1.0 First version.

     menu_error

I like your theme, but there's a litte bug at GTK3 menus... http://imgur.com/deMl4K6
In the picture Transmission menu (GTK3) under Xfce 4.10.

Also, a litte darker gray would be nicer, but it's my taste.

Hi Kyorakutatsumi, thank you for your comment but I was not able to simulate this bug. I tested it in Xubuntu 13.10 (XFCE 4.10) with this result: http://imgur.com/ulgUqSc

Can you pelase post me your distribution and exact versions of XFCE and Unico engine? I will try to figure it out. Thank you.

    Hey vkuzel,

Thanks for you answer, I use Arch linux (Linux 3.12.5-1-ARCH x86_64), Xfce is 4.10, package versions are slightly different at third level, so -presumably- most importants are:
    xfdesktop 4.10.2-1
    xfce4-session 4.10.1-1
    xfwm4 4.10.1-1

    Unico:
    gtk-engine-unico 1.0.2-3

    Gtk 3:
    gtk3 3.10.6-1

    These might be useful:
    gtk2-xfce-engine 3.0.1-1
    gtk3-xfce-engine 3.0.1-1
    gtk-engine-murrine-0.98.2-1

This menu bug also comes forward at audacious 3.4.3, gnumeric 1.12.8, Nemo 2.0.8 (Nautilus fork for cinnamon), but for example not in Exaile 3.3.1, abiword 2.8.6, GIMP 2.8.10 or in any Xfce applications (Thunar, Xfce Terminal, Xfce menu, Xfburn 0.4.3, panel applets).
As far as I know, Gtk3 applications affected, Gtk2 apps not.

Kyorakutatsumi, thank you for your info. I think I was finally able to simulate it and fix it. I copied some new code from latest version of Bliebird so I hope I did not break anything else.

Please download latest version from this web or GitHub and check it out.

    Wow, thanks, it's nice now.
At last, I found a decent dark xfce theme that works same on GTK2 and GTK3 app as well. ^^

Hi, this theme looks great but I'm seeing it ugly on my machine, it looks like a dark win 95, maybe I'm lacking some gtk-engine-* ?

    thanks in advance.

    Hey tavuntu,

I am using this theme on Xubuntu 14.04, this means XFCE environment with murrine GTK2 engine installed. And without any GTK+ (GTK3) engine specified.

What distribution and enviroment are you using?
