Description:

Some themes I created to fit with the new Ubuntu's colour scheme.

Each pack contains:
- Smart GTK
- Smart Metacity (created with Homosapien online customizer)
- desktop background
- panel background

There are three versions available:
- Smart Dark
- Smart Light
- Smart Radiance

Problems:

1. Metacity has some ugly maximize/minimize borders/buttons

Try one of the folowing:
- use Ubuntu Tweak and change the buttons position
- visit Homosapien online Customizer and create your own theme

2. I can't install the theme!

Read the INSTALLATION.txt file

3. Gnome panel looks unfinished

You HAVE to use the panel background i provided with the theme

Changelog:

V 1.0

first release

v 2.0

- another new theme added - SmartRadiance
- updated screenshots
- some minor bugs fixed

Hi, how can I install this theme? There doesn't seem to be a tar.gz theme file that my 'appearance' can recognise. I've tried extracting the zip file but it doesn't install, please help!

Inside the zip archive is a folder "SmartDark". Drag this folder onto the Appearance window. Then right click the panel, choose Properties, tab Background, and select my "panel_bg_24"

Me too cant install

when i drag the folder it says:
installation failed: cant recursively copy directory

I then switched to root and copied the directory in /usr/share/themes

and when i select the theme from the appearance window it does not display like your photos here instead it displays another ugly theme :(

what am i missing here?

create a folder called ".themes" in your /home/username and copy SmartDark folder to ".themes"

1. Uncompress the .zip archive
2. Select the "SmartDark" (or "Smart_GTK") folder (which contains a gtk-2.0 folder, a metacity folder and an index.theme file)
3. Compress this SmartDark folder to the archive format "tar.gz" to obtain, for example, a "SmartDark.tar.gz" file (zip format doesn't work)
4. Drag this tar.gz archive into the Appearance window
5. Select the new Smart theme

Thanks for your help, this is a good alternative as well. I was flummoxed by the lack of tar.gz, but it's a great idea to make one from the unzipped folder

Thanks, this worked a treat! Your theme is very beautiful. I've been an admirer of your wallpaper designs for some time now and before I installed this theme, my wallpaper was one of your karmic nature themes. You've obviously got a flair for design, keep up the good work.

 Bad theme format

by Farliec on: Jun 3 2010

Hello,

Please, replace the SmartDark (or Smart_GTK) folder by a tar.gz file (or tar.bz2, but no zip).

Then, users will be able to install it by the following method :
- uncompress the zip archive
- drag & drop the tar.gz archive in the Appearance window.

It would be easier...
We have a graphical application to install themes, so let us use it ;)

i know, but on DA you can upload only zip/rar files.
I think Ill pack the "SmartDark" folder in tar.gz

 Bar button bad position

by Farliec on: Jun 3 2010

Your theme change the top button position (close, minimize, ...).

On my system there were on the left, then after installing your theme, there are on the right !!

It would be better to let the button at their place : some would like left, other right, so please, don't change it...

Its not my fault. As I said in the description, I have used Homosapien online Customizer.
Im not the metacity creator
You can use Ubuntu-Tweak to change buttons positions

 Smart Radiance

by Farliec on: Jun 4 2010

Hello :)

First, good job for the tar.gz :p

Second, I really like the Smart Radiance screenshot, but it seems that the theme in the archive isn't the same : for me, buttons are on the right (instead of the left in the screenshot) and they are different, mostly like the Smart-Light theme. Moreover, the little screenshot displayed in the Appearance window isn't the same as your big screenshot, but looks exactly the same as the installed theme :'(

Please read the theme description carefully and make sure you have Ubuntu Tweak installed.
There is an option to change the buttons position.

Your second problem, I don't get it... What's the problem?

Are you a Linux beginner?

Really sorry if you don't understand what I said, I'm french.

Themes doesn't need "Ubuntu Tweak" to change button position, it's an option to write in the index.theme.

And SmartRadiance buttons haven't "ugly" borders, I said there are like your Smart-Light theme (no border, no orange background), do you mean your Smart-Light buttons have ugly borders ?

After the install of your SmartRadiance theme on my PC, I compared the installed theme and your screenshot :
- buttons aren't the same (no border, no orange background)
- buttons aren't on the left

I only wanted to know why, and if it was a problem on my PC or in the theme archive.
Really sorry for trying to help.

Am I a linux beginner...? Strange question... Why ? Is your theme only designed for experimented users ?

But, yes, I am probably a linux beginner, under linux for 4 years, developper for 10 years and which know how simply and properly install a theme under Gnome (and simply doesn't mean "drag & drop the folder" or manual copy to an hidden theme folder...).

Again, really sorry, I think I will follow your the second advice of your description and make my own theme instead of trying to help some kid.

Regards,

Ok, now I get it. Why dont you said that at the beginning?
I have the same problem not only with my themes but with almost any other non-ubuntu theme.
Thats way I'm using Ubuntu Tweak, and that's because Canonical introduced a new design for Ubuntu.
I supposed you are a beginer because you insisted with this problem.
Maybe it was better to let users choose their borders. I wanted the theme to be complete.

Ok

I resolved the problem by adding the line "ButtonLayout=close, minimize, maximize:" (without quotes) at the end of the index.theme file.

It might be usefull to other ubuntu users.

Ubuntu user
Sorry for my poor english, I'm french ;)
