Black theme based on Dark Cold:

Window Theme:
http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Xaphire+Xfwm4+Pack?content=88496
Original artwork: JJ.Ying at http://www.jjying.cn/

Changelog:

1.5 -- Updated to GTK-3.20 (also includes 3.18 if required). Extract required folders x3 named 'Plasma' to theme folder. Subtle changes to themes apply, more changes sure to follow.

1.4 -- Now added LightDM login theme for each variant (wallpaper not included).

1.3 -- Used prelight/hover button from Xfce panel for all prelight/hover functions. Previous buttons saved as xxx-old.png. Surprisingly slick uniform look. IF IN DOUBT BACKUP YOUR EXISTING VER 1.2.

1.2 -- Enabled window decoration settings to be applied via the Xfce Settings Manager.

Removed grey coloured vertical border pixels on buttons to avoid blend stretching when apps use long button dimensions.

Added 2 pixel horizontal padding throughout due to tight space inside some buttons for text.

1.1 -- Further fixes/tweaks as of GTK 3.11
1.05 -- Various small fixes/adjustments.

The new fangled client side decorations (CSD) from GNOME is messing up things a bit though w.r.t top window bar. Hopefully Xfce will handle this better in the future (some time).

 Fabulous

I don't think I have ever been happier with a desktop theme, this is truly marvelous.

Now, I notice that others here have/had the same problem as I did, where the main theme elements weren't even applying. (No colours, no shapes, no scrollbars... only window decorations worked)

I found I had to put the theme in ~/.themes rather than ~/.local/share/themes. They showed up in the list, I could select them but I guess it wasn't finding the files.

It is correct that the theme must be installed in the ~/.themes folder at least. However, for the theme to work system wide (all users including root) it must be installed in /usr/share/themes.

You must have the pixbuf GTK2 engine installed (most if not all main distros have it available). Without it you won't get the hover images in GTK2.
If the problem is GTK3 then using GTK-3.18 will not work with GTK 3.19+, hence this latest update.

Good Luck. :)

 Nice theme, unuseable in Audacity

Very nice theme, but it makes Audacity almost unuseable :(

When I start it, everything is black.

Thanks to lazy XFCE coders, I can't just override Audacity with a different theme.

Seems I have to look for a different one. Meh.

Yes, sorry about that. This has been a difficult issue with Linux for as long as time exists. So many toolkits, different widget rules etc. Cross platform applications are almost (if not) always the worse offenders. I'll look around for a fix but don't hold your breath! ;)

i love your themes but it seems they're broken with gtk 3.20. is there a chance that you might fix it? i know it's gotta be annoying how newer gtk3 releases are breaking your stuff …

I hear you. Updating is well under way (at least for 1 of the 3 variants, so far.), hold tight.
I am having a odd issue with 'scale highlight {xxxx' for the slider controls (ie. volume, brightness etc type sliders). They work but don't scale quite properly. Pertinent code is below:
scale.horizontal highlight {
background-image: -gtk-scaled (url("darkelements/scale/slider-horiz-hover.png"));
background-color: transparent;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: 100%;
}

Mostly it is working pretty well. Some subtle changes are inherited (for the better imo). I might do a rough release and as usual, tweak as I go and upload.

Lol, I've given up trying to convince those around me. ;-P. Thanks, I will release soon(ish).
Caveats:
i) I am easily time distracted by the internet on a daily basis.
ii) I'm no CSS expert (merely an avid tinkerer striking a blow for dark themes).
iii) I commute out each working day. This greatly reduces creative time.
iv) Have suffered motivation loss due to the Gnome policy of 'If it ain't broke, break it damn it! Break it now'.
