Indeed it can not work with the black fonts of gnome. With green I belive it would be perfect. Something like tree for example hehe.
Is there any way to change their colour?

Font apart, I consider this creation like one of the most original gtk theme released here.
I am sorry you've got screwed by bad votes.
Personally i have voted good the originality.
