Description:

I've noticed that this theme has become it a very popular topic, so I decided to make some changes to improve it. I will appreciate any comments about this mouse theme. Now is red and fully animated. I did it a lot of changes to improve it. It has new pointers and animations.

This X11 mouse theme has 48 pixels, and is a few flat: degraded and blurs. I have tested it in KDE with Kwin, Xfce, Gnome 2.x, Gnome 3.x, Unity and it works great. I added some cursors symlinks needed to Steam, and all required for KDE, Xfce and Gnome.

I did it, for people who want to have the cursor always visible. Easy to see!

This original theme cursor is 48 pixels, and I built it entirely with Inkscape. The main elements are a ring, a central circle and a cross. The idea is that both the ring and the central circle having elastic properties. This property is needed to convert from the default cursor to another cursor, using small stretchs.

If you find any errors, please let me know in the comments section.

HOW TO INSTALL IT
  • 0- Download cursor pack

  • 1- Extract it as root to /usr/share/icons/, open a terminal as root and use next command:
    Quote:
    tar --directory=Downloads -zxf Downloads/158064-Elastic.tar.gz && mv Downloads/Elastic /usr/share/icons/

  • ON KDE
  • 2- Change cursor theme with desktop setting tools.

  • 3- If you want to make it the default cursor and see this cursor theme on login screen KDM, you must edit as root the index.theme system file located in /usr/share/icons/default. Use next command:
    Quote:
    nano /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

and then change the name present after of "=", sign to Elastic

  • 4- Reboot.

  • ON GNOME or UNITY
  • 2- Choose the cursor theme Elastic. Use next command:
    Quote:
    sudo ln -fs /usr/share/icons/Elastic/cursor.theme /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme

  • 3- Select Elastic cursor theme with MyUnity, gnome-tweak-tool, ubuntu-tweak, or another Desktop Setting Tools.

  • 4- Reboot.

  • Download install and enjoy it! Thanks.

I think that It would be a good idea to speed up animation.

On a scale of 1 to 5, what would the animation speed given by you, assuming that 1 is the current animation speed? Thanks in advance.

I did some animation tests and you're right. I changed all animations except left_ptr, hand2 and watch cursors. Now you can download ElasticRing X11 cursor theme, and you must delete the previous issue using the following statement
    Quote:
    sudo rm -r /usr/share/icons/ElasticRing

and then follow the installation instructions.
    Thank you.

Are you using a different desktop environment GNOME, KDE or UNITY? because I personally tested it and it works great.

I can help you, just tell me which desktop environment and operating system you are using. Thanks in advance.

it doesn't seem to have diagonal resize cursors in KDE?

I love the idea, good work, but for me it is a little too red and outlined/flat. I prefer orange cursors and cursors that look a little more 3D with more shades - and a non-animated main cursor.

If you like 3d cursor themes, I recommend you one of mine: +OxygenEnhanced. His address is http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/% 2BOxygenE? Content = 159354. It is a multi sized mouse theme. Try the size 34 pixels, it seems as orange. I think you'll love it. Thank you.

34 is optimal size for me, but the colors of OxygenE are too dark/dim/dull for my taste. Nonetheless thanks for pointing me to it, it is a great theme too.
