Description:

Semicompact theme based on Macchiato by Jesse Kay. Metacity based on Dust by John Baer.

Compact yet elegant and functional theme, that seeks to avoid the tiny buttons, thin textboxes and small icons usually found on other compact themes and rough conversions.

Ideal for eeePCs and netbooks.

Requires Murrine engine. If you are using the latest SVN, please change STYLE to PROFILE under "murrine-default"

Changelog:

0.1 - Initial release
* Some Dust modifications to better match dark tones.

0.2
* Changes on metatheme
* Minor changes on ComboBoxes

When I saw Macchiato, I was a bit nervous that my theme was going to be butchered, but you did an excellent job with it. And combining it with Dust was a brilliant idea! It fits so perfectly!

Thank you very much for this comment, SpecKtacle, glad to hear you approve my little intrusion on your work :)
There are still some details I want to fix when I get spare time. Combo boxes, for example, are still too big for my taste, but form controls are difficult to handle.
About Dust, yeah, they mix perfectly, but John's metacity is so damn good that fits on almost any theme ;)

Great idea, I like compact themes, but what about the regular dust theme made compact?

Thanks and yep, sounds like a nice idea. I have a small list of themes that look great on the eeePC and worth a little tweak to better suit small screens.

I think compact themes are the future, laptop screens are getting smaller and smaller, and I hate the waste of space of many GTK themes. I'd love to see the other themes you mentioned!

 Toolbar lines

This theme is great, except for those horizontal lines between toolbars... any way to remove them in murrine themes ?

Yes, you can add douse properties on the gtkrc file:

GtkMenuBar::shadow-type = GTK_SHADOW_NONE
GtkToolbar::shadow-type = GTK_SHADOW_NONE

gtkmenubar works well and looks nice, but gtktoolbar is not working as expected. Perhaps SpecKtacle can take a look into this.

Thanks!

I've noticed that
GtkMenuBar::shadow-type = GTK_SHADOW_NONE
has a problem too: the darker line (separator) gets replaced by another one slightly brighter than the theme color

Still better than default... still removing it is most desiderable to me :)

By the way, I don't know if it's possible... how about using the toolbar background color also for tabs background ? I mean, for the free spacep aside of tabs

Mmm I'm not sure if this is possible on actual version of Murrine. You can wrote the suggestion to SpecKtacle, the original author.

This line belongs to the toolbar, that by default get "raised".

GtkMenuBar::shadow-type = GTK_SHADOW_NONE

I do it with most of my themes. Brilliant to save a few px and get a cleaner look.
