Hi,

I would like to do a small survey. What do you think about our current content categories?
Is a category missing? Is something illogical or hard to understand?
Is there someting you would like to change?

I'm happy to here your suggestions. :-)

Cheers
Frank

 Mouse themes?

by sabaal on: Oct 19 2007

I just spent three minutes trying to figure out where the cursor themes were, since I was expecting the word "cursor" to be in its name. And I certainly wasn't expecting the link to start with the letter "X" (there's no other kind of cursor theme on this site, so why specify X11?). Maybe it's just me, but it seems that something like "Cursor Themes", or even "Mouse Cursor Themes" would be easier to spot.

On the other hand, I might just be an idiot. :P

Amarok themes is a mess. It needs subcategories.

 where is 1280x800?

Many new notebooks have screens in 15.4, 1280x800. So for the best quality (no scaling) on LCDs it'd be good to make such category.

 Tagging

by Syllten on: Nov 19 2007

The current categories are somewhat not-so-easy-to-browse, sadly.

Not only that it is hard to find the category you are searching for, these categories when you find them are flooded with contents that might not be entirely correct or simply is offensive.

Having four "levels" of categorization, (think tags) with a maximum of 7-8 choices would simplify the browsing, I think.

Let me explain with an example.

The first category level is shown in the right (where the filter box is today). It's tags are what overal type this submission is of. I.e. idea/mockup, screenshot and offensive/adult for content that might be perceived as offensive to some (adult or political content). A certain submission can have several tags from this level, and the filter system is used on this level as it is today.

The second level is the overal nature of the submission. Is it an application theme, desktop theme, wallpaper or other.

The third level is the subcategory of te second level. For application theme e.g.
Kopete styles, kdegames theme, amarok theme, noatun skins, ...
For desktop theme the subcategories are Styles, Theme-manager Themes, Icon theme, System Sounds, Color schemes, Screensavers, Splash Screens, Bootsplash Screens, Cursor Theme (X11 Mouse theme), Plasmoids, Kicker Background, Fonts and Login Themes (KDM themes).
For Wallpaper the subcategories are different screen resolution, both 16:10 and 4:3 ratios. And for "other" the subcategories are Cliparts, Emotican Themes, Improvements, Service Menus, Artwork Contest, Everywhere and Other.

The fourth level is a tag KDE (and version), GNOME (and version), BOTH or NONE.

The fourth level could be filtered in a box similiar to the filter box in the right, but beneath it.

Level two and three (the true categories) can be minimized at first and expanded when a subcategory is selected, as it is today.

Hope you found some ideas of value!

Seriously...
