Ubuntu is better than Kubuntu

Description:

I am tired of everyone saying that KDE and Kubuntu is better than Gnome and Ubuntu. Gnome may have a few bad things but in my opinion is still the best.

This group has been made to compete with the Kubuntu is better than Ubuntu group.

 My reply to Kde zealots

I find all this ironically odd and somewhat backwards. Think about it: Kde emulates the Windows Desktop and Gnome emulates the Mac desktop.

So folks saying Kde is better is like the windows people snobbing the mac folks.
It's totally backwards.

My reply to an over-zealous Kde fan would be to ask them this: if you want to emulate the windows desktop so badly, why not just stay with Microsoft in the first place?

This is all in good fun. I've used KDE before and it's alright; I simply prefer Gnome.

Who says KDE want's to copy Windows desktop? That's old thing and it should forget, because if someone use KDE few weeks, s/he notices that windows desktop is crapled version, what is called as "desktop".

"This is all in good fun. I've used KDE before and it's alright; I simply prefer Gnome."

I simply prefer KDE because it gives me more power than Windows or MacOSX desktop, or GNOME desktop. I like GNOME desktop too but I dont use it as main #1 desktop, but it does not mean that I offer KDE always first to my clients, it can be GNOME too if they need desktop functionality where GNOME fits.

It's just stupid to anyway to referr GNOME == MacOSX and KDE == Windows.
Especially if GNOME user is saying promoting their own choise (GNOME) with it to same level as MacOSX users has use to have usability ;-)

So chill out, every desktop has it's bright and dark side, some desktop just fits better for someone and other desktop better for other users.

No need to fight among other users or bash other desktops!
There is reason why there is these few different desktop enviroments and so many window managers and it's not about that wich one is best... it's about taste and usability for different kind users.

KDE is made for users by users....
What can you give back to others?

Regards to your reply. Don't worry; I'm already chilled.

The idea that Kde emulates the windows desktop enviroment and that Gnome emulates the mac is not my idea.

I got that from somewhere in a Linux support article or Community Document.

My apologies for not remembering exactly where it came from.

My point was simply - if that idea makes sense (which it does to me) - then the whole hoopla going on is very ironic.

Btw, my comment about staying with windows is made hypothetically and in fun, as I mention in the article.

Iwm is much better than Gnome or KDE.

I like my RAM spent on productive activities not supporting some bloated desktop thank you very much! Eye candy is for the weak!

Then the obvious question is why are you coming to gnome-look anyway.

These groups are not just for gnome-look.org. There are dozen of different non-GNOME sites what are on same domain and share groups and some contents... so if someone "bashes" the GNOME, the writer is not always doing it from gnome-look, but example from scribusstuff.org. ;-)

But in my opinion gnome is better than Iwm,Kde and Xfce. Gnome is the most popular desktop environment and by what you said it sounds like Iwm is plain. There is nothing wrong with eyecandy (themes).

 KDE Looks Kompletely Stupid

by scottuss on: Jun 11 2008

I always used KDE when dabbling in Linux before, and after discovering Ubuntu I have to say I find KDE very childish looking. Nearly all applications begin with or have a K in them. I don't know why it matters it just looks stupid and not very professional. The overall feel of KDE isn't very nice, it feels too much like an unfinished product in some ways, something that Gnome just doesn't feel like.

I don't agree. KDE4 looks very good, KDE3 with configured QTCurve too.. but Gnome looks better :)

I personally think that KDE, Gnome and XFCE are all fairly similar to Windows (of some persuasion).
Why does this have to be a bad thing? Is it possible that there are good things about Windows that have positively influenced desktop environments and window managers in Linux?

I like the 'Serenity' KDE style. And 3.5.9 only, 4.0 just ain't there yet. My 2 cents (+GST) worth.
