Since ubuntu basically uses a snapshot of debian unstable (sid) to create a release...why not run debian stable or debian testing? unstable is by far the most unrecommended to run of the three. Ubuntu and 9 out of 10 of its respins include proprietary software. Has anyone else noticed the trend of once ubuntu based distros moving to debian testing? IE: eb4 (formerly eeebuntu), crunchbang, elive will be coming out with a testing based release so Ive heard, MEPIS _USED_ to be based on ubuntu.... Ubuntu just isnt that great. Its just hyped up to be. If you think about it, theres absolutely nothing special about it aside from the proprietary driver installer ...its not like debian doesnt have a GUI installer...so its really no easier to install..ubuntus alternative install uses the text debian installer...I can go on all day.

yes thats true, I my self use debian too, but waht i was trying to tell is ubuntu is bit user friendlier when installing, so its easy for a new user to (begin) move from micro$opht to linux.
for that these wallpapers might not help. :)

Thanks,

My point is that it really isn't any more user friendly to install ubuntu over debian. the debian installer _does_ have a point and click installer same as ubuntu.

I am attempting to create a debian testing based distribution of linux for shits and giggles. It will be a minimalist distro, using openbox as the default WM, and purely GTK2 apps. Ive always hated the idea of mixing gtk2 and qt apps on a machine. It just makes me feel dirty. I plan on calling it "Clockwork Linux". For the record, no half naked women and I dont want the name of the distro on the wallpaper. I am thinking something along the lines of A Clockwork Orange (yes the movie) type wallpaper with penguins wearing the funny hats and carrying chains and such. Heres something along the lines I want:

http://sindustries.ning.com/photo/clockwork-1?context=album&albumId=3088034%3AAlbum%3A2662

You can find me on irc.sindustries.org in #clockwork or #Lobby if you are interested in helping, I could also use some experienced developers.

this happens, because you are not pashioned enogh to wait until loading of this page is completed and you click much too often because of not being pationed.

I do not have problems with loading of this page. Perhaps you should chack your Internet-speed and your network-connection.

I use DSL2000 and my computer is quite fast with WLAN. Do you use cable-connection or also WLAn?

Greetings
