 Opening the door....

by twrock on: May 10 2008

It's Saturday morning and I couldn't sleep in (not for lack of wanting, mind you). So I decided to poke around this group and see what was up with so much "activity". So I opened the door, and had a peek inside. (i.e. I joined and started reading through old comments.)

"Friends dont just let friends brand half naked women with ubuntu logos." Perfect! That is well put. The only wallpaper content I can recall voting "bad" has been exactly that kind of thing (but "Ubuntu" logos are just the most prevalent type, not the only ones). Searching the web and finding some (likely copyrighted) picture of some half-naked woman and slapping a logo on her is not art. I know we can all sit around and discuss what art is or isn't (i.e. whether the original picture of the half-naked woman was art or not), but just slapping a logo on her doesn't make it so.

So, in that sense, I completely agree with the "founding" description for this group.

But then I read through way too many of the posts that followed that original statement and "marveled" at what had become of it all. At the risk of being overly crude, here's the "picture" that came to mind: this place resembles an adolescent circle jerk.

So at this point, I think I'll just quietly back up and shut the door and leave you all to the "business at hand" (pun intended).

....shutting the door.

Thats fine by me, person. My group will still be here like it or not, and will probably stay very active...theres nothing wrong with being able to express your opinions of anything you want in my group really...i sure would rather everyone stick to the subject...but I find it hard to do that even myself when editors of this website themselves are coming into my group "trolling" and have the gall to call me and my members trolls. I call them hypocrites.

chilldish huh?...

You are welcome here like every other person before you that came here and tried to make some seance out of theyr "popcorn", trying to make us feel in any way, other than what we are in this comunity: the best group around, we fear nothing and we welcome all.

Secondly, its quite funny the way your opportunistic character finds his way through the "military camp", at night when every "soldier" is drunk sleeping waving the sword of victory and simply running with his but between his legs when one of those soldiers coffed wile turning his "hangover" to the other side of the tend...ehehehe... serius, its funnie.

i just think this is all about jealous. Our group is just the best, the most controversy bringer and the best looking :D

But i cant just let finding your post a little bit coward and seriously, we can just discuss this like grown men if you step up like an example, what you say? dont just leave the group you are welcome here, we like everybody's ideas, dont we guys?!

everyone welcome the mighty "gladiator" :P

>>chilldish huh?...
I believe the word was "adolescent", but if you prefer "childish", I can go with that too.

>>You are welcome here like every other person before you that came here
Thank you for the "welcome."

>>and tried to make some seance out of theyr "popcorn",
Making any sense out of this was never my intent. It simply occurred to me while browsing the comments that a core group of the contributers here reminded me of a bunch of adolescents sitting around in a circle jerk. I'm sorry if I disappoint you by not having a serious agenda for coming by. And since I didn't have anything to further to contribute in that type of setting, I thought it best if I just leave. But thanks for the invitation back.

>>trying to make us feel in any way, other than what we are in this comunity: the best group around, we fear nothing and we welcome all.
I would never presume to try to make you feel in any way whatsoever. How you feel about yourself and your group is entirely up to you. I have no control over your thoughts and emotions. Whether you have no fear and believe you have the best group around is truly of no interest to me at all. But I certainly would expect exactly that from you, so if you had said otherwise, I would have been surprised.

"Military camp"? Sir greyhat, you are truly quite the funny one. Has it not yet occurred to you that some people live in very different locations in the world and so for them the hours of the clock are not what they are for you?

>>i just think this is all about jealous. Our group is just the best, the most controversy bringer and the best looking :D
I will simply take your smiley to mean that you are speaking very tongue-in-cheek. If not, then I can assure you that the existence of this group and its "success" or lack thereof leaves me feeling nothing at all. It is truly of no consequence to me, so why should I bother feeling anything at all about it?

>>But i cant just let finding your post a little bit coward and seriously, we can just discuss this like grown men if you step up like an example, what you say? dont just leave the group you are welcome here, we like everybody's ideas, dont we guys?!
LOL. "Cowardly" can hardly apply to people sitting at their computers, banging away at little letters on keyboard. However, I seriously doubt you are capable of "discussing this like grown men." I've read enough of your previous posts to have already reached that conclusion. So forgive me if I don't bother "discussing" this with you at all. I am very certain it would be of no value to me and only of perceived value to you.

>>everyone welcome the mighty "gladiator" :P
Yes, yes, I catch the sarcasm in that statement. Continue on "brave knight" with your band of merry men. If you keep telling yourselves how great you are, you might actually believe it some day. (Or do you already?)

Sir greyhat, sir tw1ggz, I bid you goodbye. I truly see no purpose in continuing on in this setting. You have "your" group and the individuals in it will decide how it looks and feels. For me, it just isn't a place I choose to be. I hope that is enough for you. But if not, and if you feel the need to suggest my absence shows me to be a coward, I welcome you to do so. Maybe it is important that you do that for your own sake. For me, it is of no consequence.

Good day.

i feel you are indeed a good guy or at least you present yourself as one.

this is not about me or anything to do with my personality, morals or any other kind of pathological behavior.

You cant just bind all my posts and expect to find a pattern out of my social activity that would indicate or expose my ego because all you can see is someone stiff enough to carry on his believes till the end with more power put in it than usual(trolling, this is were i am, i am the major resident troll of the group, yes i am an asshole), and because my mind, my ego and my personal foundations are rock solid(so are the moral structure of every member in here, to me looks like you just think that all other people in this group other than me and twiggz are just a bunch of sheep that can easily be deceived or misled), when in fact, they are far from being shaken by anyone. Was expecting better than that from you :P

So at this point coming here and just make a "memory dump" trying to get people seeing me or twiggz in a way that would be convenient for many people that dont like us, just seems to me like some kind of social manipulation witch all members of this group are vaccined a long time ago.
Don't forget we get many people almost weekly trying to do the same thing, i can honestly say that you were the most intelligent one to do so ;)

Another thing i enjoy is watching how you people come here trying to just stand tall to us and end up being like rocks falling from a hill, i personally am like that, when someone "kick me in the butt i start rolling and wont stop" so you are to, just gave you a good example of it Mr. Gladiator :P

Please just don't get to serious, after all we are just sharing the same place in the same community.

well, once again you are welcome to stay in the group at least i feel that way, and share your thoughts, points of view, etc...

Please just don't slap ubuntu logos with "ultimate or aqua" written on the side and call it a wallpaper, or another Gtk Vistaish theme, because that is frustrating for most people in here.

here is a good example of originality and simplicity(personally like the flame effect in the desk bar): http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Excelsior+(Engine)?content=76486

i encourage everyone who reads this post to try to make a more "sporty-aggressive" kind of the same theme, with the same simplicity. would be great! :)

As to your pun, Im sure we could deal with a circle jerk, as long as your stupid ass was sitting in the middle playing catch. That would make for a great youtube vid.

Wow...I have left Gnome-look for quite a while but this group is still alive in the hottest groups! Nice.
I've read some of the previous posts about the No-Desktop group, but I think it is kind of uncongruos making a group about it in a place about GNOME!
It would be like putting this group in Ubuntu-art xD

I agree, NO DESKTOP is a pretty dumb group to be on gnome-look.org ...Im glad that Im not the only one who agrees with that ...others have also posted the same in this group....I think mr editor codeg33k got his manhood hurt by our comments so he had to come in here and flame us, ( i didnt go into his group and flame HIM) IMO
I did nothing wrong, he calls it trolling, i call it hving an opinion. Let him whine.

Oh yeah, isnt trolling usually done in someone elses irc channel or "group"? Am I not allowed to have opinions in my own damn group? where does this codeg33k fucker get off coming into my group and actually showing us the true definition of trolling is.

I dont agree that this group doesnt belong on gnome-look simply because its purpose is to complain about the flood of ugly, halfnaked women branded with ubuntu logos and then called wallpapers and then uploaded to gnome-look.org .....

LOL Maddeth, whats with the copy and pasting about 2 or 3 months of expensive old literature from the 2 most irreverent members on GNOME-LOOK history ever?

Cant you just make sense and construct a decent elaborated text from your own "popcorn"? Or your just trying a new strategy like waiting for me or twiggz to go in trolling mode and dump something like: "frack you mono-neuron" :D so you can have another way of eluding people to leave our group and join your "wubista" club?

By the way, don't mind my English because its not my first language, and oh...it reminds me of something, can you just make "mono-thoughts" of your own in another language other than English? because in English i think you dont do a very good job at it :P

Thanks for that enlightening post, though if you READ what I had actually typed, I am not in another group, and i have not actually read many posts that actually try and shift anybody to join another group.

To be quite honest i just want to know why there is so much ububtu/linux bashing here, it makes no sense.

You are not so bad greyhat, some of the stuff you say makes some kind of sense, but you are a bit of a buttkiss, Twiggz really needs to get out more as i think the old CRT monitors may have fried what brain he has and lowered it to a toddler state (without the accelerated learning I might add). If you guys cleaned up this group a bit and were a little more civil it could be really good, but slamming Linux in a Linux based site is just as bad as what all those Windows fanboys that you hate so much do.

Grow up.
