No More Spam!

Promotion
Description:

Join this group if you are sick and tired of all the spam that's popping up on OpenDesktop. It seems to be a new spam group every week now!

I am now an admin, and I can delete spam groups and events, so I will try to keep them under control. But I can't delete users, so I will leave this group up to keep track of spam users.

You can also offer solutions to the problem here, like have a reporting system so admins can look up the user or group and ban them.

(0) Known spam users:

The numbers are how much spam the user has created. This includes how many spam groups the user has created, regardless if they still exist or not, as well as any spam comments, events, etc.

Post below if you know of any more, and I'll add them to my list. Thank you.

that's not strange. each new group gets the next number in order. these must have been made around the same time.

they were probably made by a bot. and the spammer just enters the captchas (charecters you enter to prover you're not a bot). afaik we have to do that when a group is made... (I've never made a group)

That's how I would do it if I were AN EVILE SPAMMERR! MUAAAHHHAHAHAHAA...

yeah... anyway...

oh, and i noticed why 418 is missing - it's this group ^^
so they do just go in order, having 5 or so in a row of spam groups means that many in a row (in a fairly short time). this is not good.

The "PHPSESSID" part means it's probably that there was something done on the page to change the URL (eg: something was favorited, rated + or -, ect...)

to solve the problem, it would be enough to prevent the creation of new groups to new users! but only to users who have participated actively in gnome-look!

the max image size is 120x120, so i can't :(

if new users couldn't make groups that wouldn't be fair. i think there should be a reporting system. so if you see spam you can report it and have it deleted within a few days.

Well now it looks like were turning into the Gnomelook Spam Reporting Team (GSRT) lol

GSRT vs. SPAM

We should update the group page with known spam groups and spam account names. also showing a date for last list update would help too.

Maybe if it gets big enough well attract attention.

And I dont think 2-3 posts before u start a group is not that tough.

 Full Report....

 by Dart00 on: Nov 1 2010

Hey guys. I had some time and was really bored (I don't trick-or-treat) so thought I might take a journey though the gnome-look groups. :)

Yes, i walked on all 424 groups in about a hour and a half. I learned a lot!

Somethings I noticed:
Freedom! You have the freedom to do what you want and create what you want. I also learned that there is A LOT of hate in the world :(. I also learned that there are A LOT of countries and distributions lol. Also a lot of languages. I found groups that had true potential that never really took off, I found a few interesting and even joined a few. :) I saw a lot of duds and lot of LARGE groups. Many projects and goals. It was quiet a interesting experience and I encourage anyone else who wants to go for a adventure to try it out. You may learn a thing or to :)

Well my findings:

Here is a list of groups that are ether completely SPAM and should be removed as well as their creators or border lined SPAM...its up to the group leader if he wants to target them or not. I DO NOT want this to turn into a hate group. My targets were public groups (I excluded private groups) that have no direction or meaning with little or no members...aka, SPAM. I used my best judgment. I did find a few groups i DID NOT like, but they are not SPAM, so they are not listed. To each his own I guess...

I thought these groups were funny lol:

http://gnome-look.org/groups/?id=85

Also I made a short list of truly worthwhile notable groups with causes likes ours which would benefit everyone (mostly) or that i found interesting:

most look like it, but some might just be dead groups. there are some groups that idk if they're spam or just dead. someone should check them out.
(257, 303, 306)
and a few groups look like the creator might not be spam, just the group is dead, or a test. if an admin will delete these, they should pm the creators to see if they're a bot, or spammer, too.

As for users, lets make a target list too. But remember that not all spam group creators are spammers, lets only list users that are sure fire spammers to avoid dead group creators.
