GTK Theme Maker

Applications
Description:

This is a group for the development of GTK Theme Maker.
http://opendesktop.org/content/show.php?content=144321

Help is needed for UI design, coding, and testing.

I'm not so sure about importing gtk files, though. Even though GTK 3 uses CSS, there is still the problem of getting the individual values so a GUI editor can be made. Right now the program only has a text editor pane so you can see the results as you edit.

I am using Python and releasing the program under the GPL.

Sorry about that! I have been a little busy lately. I will publish what there is of the code and some basic interface plans hopefully today ;)

Right now the only part implemented is the ability to change the look of the button using a separate text editor with a custom gtk file. Later it will be able to have it's own text editor, a wider range of widgets, and an interface that will allow the user to change murrine options.

It needs a really cool name too, so please tell me any ideas :D

One more thing: I did decide on C over c++, because of these reasons:

almost everyone has gcc installed

gtk development files for C are easy to get, so it will be easy for anybody to compile it

gtk was made for c, so it wold be best to make a gtk specific program in c

see, this is what we get when "normal"
users start using linux. "Omg, you have
to write code to make a theme, I'm not
doing it, if it takes more then 3 clicks,
it's crap".

Ffs dudes, gtkrc is fkn easy please
learn it and stop whining about some magical
app to do all the work.

"this makes me a sad sad panda".

And padster is an idiot.

I make gtk themes, and they are easy, so I agree on that part. I see tons of requests for one, so I am making one. If you don't like it, I'm sorry. Please only post if you are actually going to help the project, not criticize it.

no the test box doesn't do anything yet. It will later, though. To change the button, open the rc file in the gtk-2.0 folder that is in the same directory as the program. Change some of the options with geany or gedit, save it, and click the button again. Later you will be able to do this within the program. Then it will be useful for previewing code, and then putting it into a theme manually. Of course later this will be automated too.

All the program was meant to do is to see if it was even possible (which it was) to change the look of a widget during the program. If you look at the code you should be able to see how I did it(just ignore the packing statements at the end. All you are concerned about is the callback on the top, because that does the 'thinking').

how can TheRob say that gtk theming is so easy?? someone looked at the themes he did? Shit, I don't know how people can download them! I think he downloads his theme by himself, 'cause they are horrible!!

anyway.. the idea is something old, I hope that this time could be the right time!, please go on working on it, we are with you..

good luck! :D

well, most people don't even code, and some don't want to. i personally like to, though i haven't really looked into writing my own gtk themes from scratch.
this could be useful to people who don't code at all, or just want a gui, or maybe for the classic "grandma with a netbook" who wants to customize her computer a little. and i've seen the_rob's themes, and they don't suck. i like a lot of them, actually, i used technix and slickness a while back, but now i use dark themes, mostly.

ok, first of all, it was a joke: I wanted to show that is too easy criticizing someone arbitrary! Personally, I don't like that kind of themes with those fonts, always the same; I don't like that kind of buttons' design: they remember me some robots cartoons from when we were childes.
I could make some other themers names that have the same style; but I don't want to: just because this is my opinion and I've got no rights to make that kind of judgements!
If someone is been able to follow my english (so sorry :( ), I'm sure he understood the reasons which makes me publish my critics on TheRob post..

so, again, let user333 works!, if he will be able to bring something new to GTK themes art we will say he done a good work..
If not, we will criticize him, but I think we must have at least the patience to see his final product!

How can we criticize an idea?
