Annoyed with everyone thinking Ubuntu is gods gift to GNU/Linux? Ubuntu fanboism is becoming a disease. This group is dedicated to users of GNU/Linux and all of the *BSDs that know what "a Linux is" and know that FreeBSD is not a distribution of GNU/Linux.

Sick and tired of everyone thinking ubuntu is gods gift to GNU/Linux. Its not the only distribution of GNU/Linux with a point and click installer. It is only the most hyped up distribution of GNU/Linux. A wise man once said, if you create something for idiots, only idiots will use it. Have you ever tried joining #ubuntu on oftc or freenode? That damn place isnt a support channel, its a zoo! The blind leading the blind. All day long in #debian channels we get ubuntu users coming in complaining and asking for help because the wonderful ubuntu community isnt helping them! The xfce4, gnome, kde, E17, fluxbox, openbox, etc, etc, operate no different on ubuntu than it does on any other distribution of GNU/Linux. Lets talk about some distributions of GNU/Linux or flavors of BSD that aren't aimed at people to lazy to use google or read man pages!

Ubuntu is just a choice of many I understand when you say it appears to be the one distro that is championed more than any other but these things can change it's upto other distro's to compete or choose a better path for their users and usera to be!

that it has the position it has.... ...it
sure as f**k doesn't have anything to do
with a lot of money spent on pr..... right.

Definately has nothing to do with all the money spent on PR and sending free UBUNTU cds free of shipping charges as well, or the fact that they swipe a debian unstable snapshot to create their "distro" with.

FACT: There are more differences in slackware based distros such as slax, vector linux, and zenwalk than there are between debian and ubuntu. Atleast those guys put in some work.

I agree totally.
I don't want to force anyone to like my distro (Arch), anyone is free to use Ubuntu and like it and I can respect that.

However, when there are news posts like "xxxx. now for Ubuntu!" I get sick.

Indeed, it gives the people that don't know
how things work within the gnu/*nix world
a false sense of ubuntu being special

 Religion and Software?

What I truly hate about Ubuntu is that is all those spin offs that keep poping up. I can (sort of) understand making a different install CD for different desktop environments like Kubuntu and XUbuntu, but things like Christian Ubuntu, Sabily Linux and Satanic Ubuntu just do not make sense. I mean they're mixing religion and software... WTF!?!?!?!?!?!

You should not forget, that derivatives like "christian ubuntu" etc are not official. Official are only Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu and I think Lubuntu, too now. The things you mentioned could be made out of every other distro, too.

And I think everyone should choose the distro he wants. So maybe you should think about the reason why ubuntu is one of the most popular distros.

Doesnt all of canonicals money spent on PR and the free shipping of free install cds just about cover it? No other distribution trys to hype itself up like that. Ubuntu is like....the iphone of linux....all hype and buggy. But the rich yuppie kids just HAVE to have one because its the "cool" thing to have.

Ubuntu is not buggy or crashy with me so I stick with it my OS my choice. Debian isvery very good but lacks the polish of Ubuntu. Thats the real difference. Sending out free cd's is a great thing to do as it gives people with dial up/slow broadband a chance to use Linux.

Polish? What polish? You mean the really ugly Human theme? Personally I think debians default gnome is better looking. Blue is much more pleasing than shit brown. lol. The point and click installer? Oh, debian has one of those also. Oh, I get it...it must be the nvidia driver installer! Yeah, lots of people dont know how to install drivers from nvidia.com on linux. Other then that I dont see how ubuntus gnome, kde, xfce4, etc...are any better? Gnome is gnome, kde is kde, xfce4 is xfce4 and so on. Polish is just a few text files :) If you like shit brown compared to blue, to each his own.
